Kya Travels
I woke up today to the feeling of the boat stopping, so I got up and put my bathers on and went up to the top deck. We were docked in one of the most beautiful and tranquil bays I've ever seen, and the sun was finally shining and the water was a magnificent shade of green or blue. I jumped off the boat and went for a swim for a little while then got back on board and lay in the sun for a little while. Darren got up not long later and came up, so we went in the water again. We only went in by the ladder because Darren's foot was still a bit too sore to jump. We swam around for a bit, then swam to the shore and hung out on the rocks with the French Canadian crew before swimming back to the boat (via a small game of water polo) then jumped back on board. We went back up to the deck and lay in the sun for a while until the bar guy came up and rang the lunch bell. We went down and got some zucchini soup, pork (or fried zucchini and salad for me!) with potato and sauerkraut followed by an apple slice-ish type of dessert. We were sitting with Sarah and Megs who were complaining about everything that was served up... That was a bit annoying! Not long after lunch we started to come in to Dubrovnik, so we headed back to the cabin to change, then when the boat was docked we jumped off. Most of the boat were lined up to buy bus tickets, but we thought we'd just walk in, as it was only 30 minutes anyway. We stopped by a kiosk and got a couple of radlers for the walk, then Angus joined us for the walk too. It was a very beautiful walk, with some awesome views over the coastline on one side, and a pretty mountain stretching into the sky not too far away on our other side. When we arrived at the city walls of the old town, we said goodbye to Angus who bought a ticket to walk the city walls. (We thought we'd save our cash and just explore!) So we went through the gates and into Kings Landing! (Apparently this was the setting for the Game of Thrones' King's Landing! Pretty awesome!) We walked through the town for a bit and around some beautiful streets and came out at a small marina. We walked around the outside of the walls on a skinny path next to the water and came out at a little swimming area, with big rocks. We sat on the rocks for a while listening to some music and looking out at the water and islands and the beauty that is Croatia! After a while we were getting really hot so we walked back around and went back into the old town where we found a cafe with seats in the shade and ordered a (very expensive) coffee and a beer and used their wifi for a while. After a while there we walked down some more pretty streets and came across a little bar on the rocks overlooking the water, and apparently the stairs there went right down to the water, so we walked through the bar to go down there, stopping to say hi to a couple of groups from our boat! We made our way down the rocks to the water and bumped into a couple of American guys that had stayed in our room at the hostel in Zadar! Crazy! We had a chat with them for a while, enjoying what was probably the last of the sun for the day, then said goodbye and went back through the bar and through some more pretty streets looking at a few menus as we went. In another street we ran into a group of three Belgian guys who had stayed at the same hostel in Zadar as the American guys we'd just run into! So random! It really is such a small world sometimes! We walked with them for a while then started our walk back to the port. We stopped at a bakery for a snack then kept going. We looked at a few menus near the port, which seemed a LOT cheaper than in the old town, then went back over to the boat. We had a chat with Sam, Matt, Tiarni and Angus who were drinking some wine and ciders out the front of the boat, then got back on board and went to our room to chill out for a while. Darren had a snooze and I caught up on my blog, which I hadn't done for a while!! A couple of hours later Sam came and knocked on the door to wake us up and let us know they were heading out, so we got up and met the group out the front of the boat. Some people got on a bus that was there, which we missed as we were waiting for Angus. We asked a taxi driver if he'd take the five of us that were left, which he said yes to, but then when we squished into the car, he started telling us to get out! And another taxi driver started giving us some lip, even though the driver had said five was okay! Must have been a bit of a misunderstanding, but they didn't have to be so rude about it!! So we waited for the bus instead. We jumped on, but they couldn't break our 200 kuna note, so Matt payed for us, and we went into the city. Matt got a message from Tiarni that they were at the Taj Mahal restaurant, which is one we'd seen earlier that was pretty pricey! We went in to try meet up with them anyway, but couldn't find the place. At one stage, Sam stopped to talk to a group of English people, and Matt went another way to ask directions and we almost lost everyone, but eventually we got Sam away and went to find Matt. We found him, and he'd apparently found the restaurant, but no one was there! So instead of going there as it was so expensive, we went to an Italian place that we were passing, called Baracuda. Matt and Sam were both pretty drunk by this stage, and were both pretty embarrassing drunk Aussie bogans! After an interesting meal which involved spilling wine all over the table, smacking a waiters bum and asking a passing couple if they could meet their baby, they had a bit of a D&M about their families, while Darren, Angus and I tried our best to be inconspicuous! After dinner we all walked down to the Sky Bar where everyone was meeting, and we said a quick hi to everyone. After looking at our remaining daily budget, we said a quick "we'll be back" and walked off to decide whether we'd stay and use the next days budget or not. We decided we'd just head off, and started back. We stopped for an ice cream each then jumped on a bus back to the boat. We grabbed some jumpers, and I grabbed the iPad, then we walked over to a nearby cafe that had wifi and got a couple of cups of mint tea with lemon and honey and used the wifi for a while. It was nice and relaxing after the hecticness of the boat crew! We chilled there until they started closing up then headed back to the boat where we chilled out and listened to some music before going to bed.
