We spent the day tanning at Playa del Carmen - the beaches here are beautiful but very very touristy, the streets around are full of the standard stalls selling tacky t-shirts and souvenirs and no street is short of a Starbucks, Burger King, McDonalds or Dominos. We had very hot and uncomfortable night's sleep last night as the electricity turned off which meant we had no fan! There was a lot of hanging around this morning as we waited for the coach to arrive for Chichén Itzá. Despite leaving later than planned the journey was only 2 hours and we had anticipated 4 which made up for it! We took the hostel's free bus service at 9am to Playa las Palmas, Tulum's famous beach and also where the Mayan ruins are. As we arrived early it was lovely and quiet, we found a nice spot and relaxed all morning. We had a spontaneous change of plan this morning, we wanted to go to Sartaneja which is a small fishing town in northern Belize. As instructed by Sean we took a bus from Crooked Tree to Orange Walk city, however when we got there some people told us there were no buses to Sartaneja on Sundays and others said there were but they didn't come until 1pm (it was only 9.30am).
