We spent the day tanning at Playa del Carmen - the beaches here are beautiful but very very touristy, the streets around are full of the standard stalls selling tacky t-shirts and souvenirs and no street is short of a Starbucks, Burger King, McDonalds or Dominos. We felt like we could have been anywhere as the Mexican 'culture' here is very Americanised. Despite this it was very lively and there was a lot going on, such as 5 men playing music from a tall pole which was quite entertaining. We joined our mate Ronald for lunch under the Golden Arches just to indulge in the local culture. We saw that you can go snorkelling with whale sharks near to Cancún so we inquired about prices for the tours! In the evening we strolled down 5th Avenue and found a nice restaurant with live (American) music where Nathan had nachos and I had a chicken Caesar salad. It definitely feels more like holiday now rather than travelling which is a nice way to end the trip as it makes life much easier!
