We left Milford Sound in very low cloud which we had to break through as we drove up the mountains on our way to Queenstown. Along the way we stopped off in Garston which is the most inland village in New Zealand and went in their only shop to try some local honey, which was very yummy. Today we went from the East coast to the West coast which was a long but amazing drive. Along the way we stopped off for some lunch at a lake which had an amazing mountain view. Today we drove through Dunedin towards the Otago Peninsula where we decided to take a tour to see the yellow eyes penguins which are the rarest penguins in the world. We were able to walk around a reserve where the penguins go on a daily basis. At this time of year they are malting so there were feathers everywhere and some of the penguins were half fluffy and half slick. So unfortunately our flight was delayed from Sydney by two hours which meant we had missed the office hours to pick up our camper van and we therefore had to find somewhere to stay for the evening. Luckily there was an information point at Christchurch airport and they booked us a dormitory at a campsite near the airport. Well I can safely say neither one of us needed to be saved by a Bondi Lifeguard! Today we walked the 6km coastal walk from Coogee beach to Bondi beach, walking past Clovelly, Bronte and Tamarama beaches. Although hot the walk was lovely and we made it to Bondi in good time.
