Goodbye Bangkok and hello Sydney! After a long night flight we arrived in Sydney yesterday morning. Amazingly we went through customs very quickly. We were expecting a scene from 'Nothing to Declare'. We were able to move into our relatively large attic flat very quickly which is very nice and has views over the city. We explored the local area known as Surrey Hills which is lovely and very much like Brighton in a way. During the evening massive bats come out of the trees and fly throughout the city but I've never seen such large bats before and they come so close to our balcony.
Today we decided to walk into the city which is only 20 minutes away and walking through Hyde Park we came across the New South Wales Food and Wine festival which was a nice surprise as they had live music and the atmosphere was buzzing. We then walked on to the Royal Botanic Gardens for a picnic which overlooks Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House, which wasn't a bad view for lunch!! Having chilled out around the waterside for a little while we proceeded to go into the opera house as we needed to pick up our tickets for La Soirée which we are seeing on Thursday. We then spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around the central business district and waterside before returning to our guest house where we watched the sunset.
We had a lovely meal at a burger restaurant and had a walk around the area at night, which is when we discovered it's very much like Brighton as there are a lot of gays and drag queens!

caroline So nice to hear about your day ! Sounds as though you are having a good time seeing the sights of Sydney ! Don't like the sound of the bats though ! Good to see pics of you both well and happy after the unfortunate events in Thailand ! Claire says she has been to one of the places in the pic and swam in an open air pool nearby ! Love and hugs to you both x x
Pam Whales Lovely photo of you two with Sydney Harbour bridge in background. It must be such a different way of life from Thailand. It all sounds so much fun. Glad you are feeling better Richards and hope that your stay in Sydney will be fantastic. love Nan and Grandad.xx
