I like Adelaide! It is a quiet city and not huge amounts to do around the town but If you have a friend that lives there - or just a car to venture further out there is lots of lovely beaches and hilly scenery to see and nice places to go!
We got on the worst train ever from sydney to adelaide - the indian pacific. Compared to english trains it was so slow and when we were trying to sleep it just felt like someone had me by the shoulders and was shaking me it was so rattley! Luckily though we only had to be on it for 24 hours!! :( Nah, it was ok apart from when we were trying to sleep really. Steves lovely friend Luke who lives in adelaide picked us up from the station and we were taken to a few different pubs as it was lukes birthday. And then to a restaurant called 'the stag' which had a sign outside saying 'wanted; vegetarians willing to change' I was like, hmm! But it was nice inside and nice food, steve had kangaroo - not cool.
Because we had our own personal tour guide we were shown many lovely beaches around adelaide which I can't remember the names of. Luke taught us how to body board a bit and I didn't seem to go too far but didn't fall off so that was good enough for me! I've started to like the water and trying to practice swimming more! Oh yeah it was a heat wave here around 40 each day - haha - you all had snow!!
Whilst we were here we went to schutzenfest which was basically a beer festival with some german food and a few people dressed up pretty cool as germans! Luke and racheael were awesome hosts but eventually we had to go to a hostel which was my 2nd hostel and not half as bad as i'd expected hearing some of the stories from some people!
Just after Luke dropped us off at the hostel we went for a walk around the city a bit, we reached 'the victoria fountain' and were just topping up on suncream when this guy asked us if we would get in the fountain and splash each other so he could take a photo for the paper. Steve's new phrase is 'why not' so we jumped in and splashed around and were on the front page the next day as part of the heat wave story! haha!!
I was forced to go and watch a 20/20 game of cricket, but was really glad I went because I saw the most beautiful sunset ever! The whole sky was red and orange, it was so beautiful!! And I got an awesome picture which I kept showing people because I just love it!
We also had a tour of the barossa valley, visiting and old german town and went to 'mount lofty' where you get a gorgeous view of the city and hills. We then went to cleland wildlife park where we fed kangaroos and emus - that was really cool - they are greedy animals! Then we qued up for a while to see and stroke a koala!! They were so sweet! I wanted to hold him but couldn't.. I think I will still try to sometime before I leave! Part of the tour included wine tasting at a winery. where I tried tiny sips and steve had both our shares because I don't like wine! It was a very good day :)
Other highlights of adelaide were a free tour of a chocolate factory - was quite cool! And Glenelg beach was nice too, but the heat wave had kinda passed by then so it was a bit more windy! We went to watch the sunset there one night, nothing beats the cricket one now though!!
Even if most people think adelaide is a bit boring - I really enjoyed my time there so its all good!!
