Howdy!
Hope everyone is well! Greetings from the land of the kangaroo once again. So its that time for an update.
Bit of an interesting last few weeks really. Had to do my first colic call for a horse and i ended up diagnosing it with a partial small intestinal twist and had to euthanasia her which was very sad, she was a much loved 29 year old horse, Not only was the colic call a first for me but so was a euthanasia of a horse. But all went really well, in a sad sense. She had a heart rate of 100!!! Yes totally abnormal. I have also had a vet student shadowing me for the past 3 weeks and we’ve had a few interesting calls, and those others which are just odd, like the greyhound dude telling us how his wife just ran off after 40 years and hasn’t been seen since! She’s either been Wolf creeked (this is now a verb we use: wolf creek is a very scary film about British backpackers that go missing in the outback) or has decided no teeth and hotpants don’t float her boat anymore.
Today I did a lateral ear canal resection on an evil dog but not sure if things will be any better now I’ve removed half its ear canal!!! Pretty big op for me really, but my boss is like just have a go. Then I had an emergency for a baby alpaca! I had never even touched one before let alone tried to save its life, so its only 24hrs old and very sick, not sure of her chances.
Had an absolutely brilliant weekend in the Hunter Valley, home of the most amazing Aussie Wines ever, with the obligatory wine testing and getting well and truly trollied on the free samples! There’s no spitting out the wine in Oz! Myself, Alison and Bella hired out a very cute cottage on the Oakvale Winery estate. A really gorgeous 4* home with of course the obligatory barbie! So we had a bit of luxury. Two of Bella’s other friends joined us for dinner and wine sampling, as one was a wine tour guide and the other a manger of the Oakvale Winery Cellar door (and both are chefs as well as Bella), which meant we had loads of wine hand picked from the professionals at bargain prices and a free wine tour thrown in!!! Fantastic.
So we did a wine tour with a hangover, after a hilarious night sampling the juice of the gods and of course amazing food made by 3 chefs! Oh yes heavenly bliss.
The wine tour was great, there were 9 of us jetting around in the mini- bus driven by Gordo and we had lunch and cheese tasting included, fantastic! Think that was to soak up the 30-40 samples we had and some of those were quarter glasses! The weekend was spent worshiping wine, having amazing food and playing aqua golf, which is so fun. It was possibly the hottest I have ever experienced as it was 46 degrees!!!! In the shade ahhhhhhh!!!! Swealtering hot and the breeze was so warm you thought your hair would singe and your eye balls dry out!
This week my liver is having a rest and I am on call this weekend and its scorchin here, the air conditioner is broken in the practice and we are just melting!
Hope everyone is well, loads a love n hugs
