Kt’s update down under!
Greetings and I hope everyone is well! Just thought I’d let you know all about my thrilling weekend as it was my long weekend off. I spent most of Friday in the bank with major bank issues, they cashed a cheque and then reversed it (my pay) so I had absolutely no money at all. Finally they sorted it at 5pm! I thought I was going to cry with no money. Had my hair done, desperately needed some attention, starting to blend in with the locals with my wild hair do!
Alison (the new America vet) also had Friday off so inbetween visiting numerous branches of the bank we explored Newcastle, had amazing calamari and chips on the quayside where a replica ship of the Dutch explorer came into harbour on its tour round Australia. Did some window shopping and explored Newcastle before we went to see the movie ‘The Devil wears Prada’. A very good film!!!
Saturday was supposed to be my diving afternoon but the weather in the night was shocking so the trip has been postponed. Instead Alison and I went to Nelson Bay, Salamander Bay and Anna Bay, very pretty places with yet more yummy fish n chips! Then it was the spectacular Bush Dance, which was hilarious I think we were the youngest people there by 30 years!!! So was jigging around with the pensioners with energy! It was bring your own booze so Peter brought 5 bottles of home made wine which as it has no preservatives=no hangover! The food there was amazing and we had a full on roast and salad and cool dinner followed by the desert. Lets just say we ate all 5 different chocolate deserts and had seconds!!! Absolutely mad. Then after the Bush Dance we decided to hit the infamous Clarence Town Pub which is full of ferral people, honestly you need vaccinating and a shot of penicillin before you go in there!!!! Have some brilliant pics of the inbreds so will post them online soon.
Sunday, Alison and I had been roped into giving a specialist talk about kangaroos at a gorgeous house in the middle of knowhere!! The talk supervisors had numerous guest speakers and we were the vets doing the talking part. We were even given a baby joey to demonstrate on. They were so cute. So we managed to bluff our way through all the questions. The house was set in beautiful surroundings and was all solar power. There were so many beautiful birds in the garden and wallabies grazing! We were treated to a lovely lunch and then Jasmin had us over for dinner again.
Its been a weekend of indulgence and the tyre tummy is starting to show, so this week is my get in shape week, so healthy food (it lasted until 3pm today when I had a chocolate hedgehog –yum aussie food from the bakery which one of the nurses gave me). However may actually hit the gym tomorrow evening!
Its been a hectic but fun weekend and its all certainly very diverse. My little foal chester is back as he developed and an eye infection over the weekend and now it looks like his cornea is pointing and about to burst! So he’s back here and under lots of care and we’re hoping he wont go blind.
Today I did a cat spay and then I amputated a leg off a duck. Its never a dull moment in Clarence Town.
Hope all is well, lots of love n hugs
