Last day in Mui Ne yesterday. Spent morning at pool then went off on a very old battered jeep to a view different sites. First stop was a small fishing village, not much to see but lots of starfish in the sea so watched them for a while then went off to Red Canyon. Climbed down into the canyon and were only people there so it was quite eery. Lots of names carved in the red sand walls so Tess carved hers in. Is low season so no little kids about to offer to take us to fairy stream for a little bit of cash which was a bit of a sham as not much else to see here.
Went to White sand dunes which were amazing. Walked for ages into the middle of them then climbed up to the top ridge which was pretty scary. With every foot step we were knee high in sand and the sand at the side and under us flowed down like a river, felt like it would 'avalanche' any minute. Made it to the top and the view was amazing, felt like we were in the middle if a desert. Tried sledging down on the sledges we'd got from kids in the car park but Lewie came off his and ended up rolling all the way down, I ended up flying head first into the sand with my arms and back completely covered and my feet and head sticking out but Tess, being so wee and light, managed to sledge - for once here size paid off! Was fun but the sledging really didn't work and we were just buried in sand the whole time. Nice to see it though and better than another day at the pool. Also stopped at red sand dunes but they were mobbed and full of people selling stuff so didn't stay long.
Went out to Jibes for dinner which was really nice. Mui Ne hasn't really impressed us, just not our kinda place really.
Left at 1pm today on bus to Saigon. Had back seats which was great as lots of room to spread out. Kids really excited about Saigon, they've missed the noise and constant stuff going on in the past few days - they really have taken to Vietnam. Bus took 6 hours which wasn't bad at all in comparison to other journeys. Was great coming into Saigon at sunrise with all the lights starting to come on. It's completely different to Hanoi, definately more of a commercial city but from the small part we've seen already it's fab. Really busy and noisy, the constant peeping of horns and people everywhere. Had dinner at Cafe Zoom which is right on a main crossroads and great to sit and watch the world go past. One of the guys who works there is a bit of a magician so he was out entertaining the kids. Going to do the walk round the city from our Lonely Planet book tomorrow and visit war museums etc then planning water park and theme park on Tuesday, boat trip to Cu Chi tunnels on Wednesday then off to Cambodia on Thursday.
