Krys & Toni's World Adventure
G'day folks, we've been quite busy since we left Broome. We got picked up nice and early (6.45) by the tour bus that we are travelling down with called Easy Rider. First day was quite a bit of driving, which basically didn't change for the next 2 days. We were travelling for 2.5 days before we hit another town, this place is just great expanses of nothing. On our first day we stopped at a place called 80 mile beach (carrying on the tradition of the 'say what you see' technique of naming things that they use in Australia). It was really nice, miles (obviously) of white sand, although you couldn't swim in the sea, a little problem of tiger sharks. There was only one caravan park for the whole 80 miles of this beach. We stayed at a working cattle station that night called Pardoo (half a million acres). Here we had possibly the most Australian experience you could have. The owner of the cattle ranch asked our group if we wanted to go out in the Ute with a spotlight to find some animals (roos and dingoes), which sounded quite cool. When it was mentioned that he was going shooting i naively thought he was joking. He wasn't! We went out sat in the back of this Ute, with an australian cattle rancher, who had a handlebar moustache, was wearing a wifebeater and was drinking a can of Bundy (Aussie rum, short for Bundaberg) and coke. Every now and then (once a Roo was seen with the spotllight, no dingoes were found) he would get out of his car, still holding his Bundy and coke, and shoot a massive rifle at some Kangaroos. Me and Toni both found it quite difficult and didn't really watch after a while. Quite glad when we were heading home. Next day we went through the Karijini national park. Walked a few kilometres through this place called Dale Gorge and swam at a few different places called circular pool, fern pool and fortescue falls. It was really nice. Stayed at a roadhouse that night. Next day we arrived in Exmouth. Basically spent 2 days sunbathing and snorkelling. Loads of nice beaches, saw a few turtles and stingrays and other nice fish. We also went up to this lookout near a lighthouse where you could watch whales jumping out of the water. Also saw loads of Kangaroos and Emus, the Emus just walked around the town. Loads of parrot type creatures including loads of flaming Galahs. Coral Bay was next. One street and a beach. Did some more snorkelling the first day. Next day we went out on this Manta Ray trip. Out on this boat, with a spotter plane out looking for Manta Rays. Once one was found we went over to it and got in the water and did a bit of snorkelling. Amazing, this creature (no sting, or teeth for that matter, so it's completely harmless) was 4 metres across and just glided through the water. We snorkelled with it for about half an hour, really good fun. Then we went through a bit where there were loads of turtles. Did a bit more snorkelling out on the Ningaloo reef. Saw a shoal of Barracuda (really pleased cos i wanted to see some Barracuda) and 3 reef sharks. One bloke got a little freaked out and needed to get out of the water so the boat came over and scared everything off, so we didn't get to spend much time with the sharks and Barracuda, which was a little disappointing. Big wuss, even Toni can live with the sharks now, although she was gripping my hand very, very tightly. The previous day we also walked along the beach to this Shark nursery, loads of baby sharks swimming around metres from the shore. I kept venturing a little too far out in to the water and Toni kept having to tell me off and get me to come and stand next to her. Got to Denham yesterday, where we're gonna stay for a week cos we've got ourselves some volunteer work at Monkey Mia working with the friendly dolphins that come to the beach every day to get fed. We're in charge of the buckets of fish and get to choose people out of the crowd who will feed the dolphins. Did our first day today, really good fun. Dolphins in the water right next to us, nudging our legs to hurry us up. Also get to feed the Pelicans which is quite entertaining. They waddle about and snatch the food out of your hand, got to keep them busy otherwise they steal the fish off the dolphins. Been really busy as you can see. Will keep you posted. Hope everything's well back in England. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeee Krys and Toni
