Toronto really isn't as scary as I thought it would be. I heard it best from the guy in my Montreal hostel: People think Toronto is big, but they count all the neighboring suburbs, like Scarborough. Downtown Toronto is not that big. Just a ton of people. It's really not that bad, but I have only been here for 14 hours. We'll have to see how the rest of the weekend pans out.
So anyways, my dad used to be in this cadets thing when he was younger in Winnipeg. It was like a junior navy thing. So, one of his buddies he's recently reconnected with from cadets has a son who goes to the University of Toronto. When I told him I wanted to come to Toronto, he put me in touch with the son, Ryan. So I've been facebooking him, and the last thing I had heard he might not be in town until late last night. But, when I got off the train, he was there! I was glad that I didn't have to face big, bad Toronto all by myself in the dark. Ryan helped me find my hostel, I got all checked in, and asked if there was anyway I could stay in the same hostel for the second night instead of switching. And there was! So I don't have to move today, and then move back tomorrow.
Alright, so Ryan had some friends who were in residence at the university, so we headed over there. Really most all of his friends are Poli Sci majors and mostly pretty liberal, so drinking and talking politics with people who know about it, and know the Canadian hald of what I know was really different. Also, drinking in the residences, having it be completely legal, and not ebing paranoid about being caught was new too. Me, not being paranoid about drinking and loud music in a residence? Why? BECAUSE I'M LEGAL HERE! Yay for me not being in the states anymore. When it's time to actually to move, it will have lost it's specialness since I'll be 21 anyway. Still, I have to use my power while it's still relevant.
After a while, we walked to a bar called the Green Room and I met more of his friends. It was a pretty decent car and I had an extremely strong martini. So, we called it a night, he walked me haldway back to the hostel, because he had to walk a very long way back home. Now, I'm at Starbucks for my chai latte fix and I'm about to go wander. This should be fun!
