Ok, frustrating public transportation and lack of good Mexican food is one thing... but waking up every morning to a new red, itchy and sometimes painful bump (anywhere from my leg to my neck to my armpit) is a complete other thing. My patience is thinningand I think we all know very well, I didnt start with very much. Yes, I miss home, I miss my family, I miss my dog, I miss my food... but this is beyond homesickness.
I think I now realize why honeymoons only last a week. If the couple were to stay longer in a tropical "paradise," they would probably erupt in slimy, itchy bumps and lumps. Then before the marriage has even really begun, their love is being tested. Does he really love you for you, or just for your normal, fungus-free skin? Would she sleep next to you and spoon you if you were covered in red bumps?
Clearly, this is a question of species and habitat. We first-world kings and queens were not built to survive in the wilderness with these wild beasts. A fish wouldnt survive in the desert and a monkey wouldnt survive under water.... hence, I DONT BELONG IN THE AMAZON. I can only live sustainably in a place that has sweet sunshine without blistering humidity, a place with a cool breeze without skin-chapping wind, a place with pretty butterflies and not blood-sucking, poisenous monsters... a place like... I dont know... San Diego for example?
I know it's only one more month and I still have fun things planned. I have places to see, beach to enjoy (if the rain ever stops), and good friends to say good bye to. But truth be told... I DONT CARE. I know once Im home I may miss my freedom and easier life here, but in this moment, I'm dying to go home! And sleep peacefully without any itching or twitching or burning.

Ricardo Soares Real test...under control of these little blood-sucker-monsters and having to stand all the f***in' heating and humidity, I know there is a place we will never find these bothering problems like we will in Rio. I would say, love conquers all...I don't mind sleeping next to someone covered by red and itchy bumps if this love is true. I actually like playing monkey, is like a fun game...try catching all the micro-sucker-jumper-monsters! :) Terrible, trouble and frustrating moments, but I think you learned a lot with these, to be honest, WE did.
