It was a tough one waking up this morning. I think the nights of little sleep caught up to us. We got up early and repacked our bags to fit out carry on bags inside and went to check out. We got our tickets for the ferry to Koh Phi Phi and waited for the driver to pick us up in front of our guest house.
The ride arrived- a pickup truck with benches in the back with enough room to seat 10. There was a hard roof on top to serve as roof racks for baggage. We arrived at the pier waited and then got on the ferry. There were seats inside but we were one of the first and were able to secure a spot on the front of the boat out front. We sunscreened up and were off for an hour and a half ride. It was a beautiful view with huge rock formations and cool Thai longtail fishing boats. I missed a spot on my thigh and could later see it as it shone red against my pasty leg.
We made it to Phi Phi and set out on a hike to find our guest house. I dont know how people backpack around Europe and wear the bags all the time. I thought I had very little stuff but my god does it ever suck on your shoulders when your walking around.
A lot of people came outside of shops to ask if we knew where we were going or needed help. Coming from Cairo where everyone who says this wants to screw you over for your money we found it hard to know how to deal with. Everyone told us in Cairo to ignore people who talk to you. People in Thailand are too friendly haha.
Ko Phi Phi is beautiful but super touristy. Also strange coming from Cairo where you feel like you don't belong. There are tons of tourists everywhere and the island is full of bars, Thai massage places, tattoo parlors, and random shops.
On the way to our room we stopped at a bookshop/cafe we read about in our guide book and had a mango shake while trying to figure out on the map where we were heading. The place had free wifi and when joining I also saw the network for our guest house "the white". It was just around the corner!!
We checked in and ended up taking an awesome hour long nap.
Once we got up we went for a walk around and ended up stopping on the beach for some food. We hung out here for awhile - see picture posted for this blog entry to see our scenery. So gorgeous!
Once we left we headed back to the room as the clouds rolled in. It poured rain so hard some of the streets were ankle deep in water...we hope only water because we had to walk through it later! During the storm I showered and we planned what we will do for the next few days. Once the rain slowed we grabbed our jackets and headed to "Reggae Thai Kickboxing European Club Restaurant" where the sign had two sleeping cats on top of it (real cats)! The bar has a huge Muay Thai ring in the back and some big screen tv's playing soccer. This is my kind of place! Niki and I each had a drink and then heard the guy standing at the door shouting into his microphone saying "Thai kickboxing tonight Thai kickboxing tonight. Buckets 140 baht come on in."
So for $5 Canadian we had in front of us a bucket! It is literally a little bucket a child would use at the beach but filled with booze. Inside this bucket is a can of coke, a small glass bottle of redbull, and a pint of local Thai whiskey. It is quite disgusting but awesome at the same time.
I am sitting in the reggae bar now typing so apologies if spelling gets horrible as we near the bottom of our bucket of head ache!
We just watched a fight with two friends in the ring in a bar. This country is nuts. They give you a free bucket to fight someone. Kind of tempting but with no mouth guard and a bunch of drunken haymakers and strangers it's a bad idea haha. A spinning hook kick could do some real damage and ruin a vacation. Great idea to bring in people to the bar though. Who needs waivers here's head gear and gloves now go fight. Kris if you were here it would be GO TIME!! hahaha too bad.
Wow real Muay Thai fights are awesome. Watching a fight with several vicious exchanges with elbows kicks and punches sending each corner to the ground. I say again. What a crazy awesome country. Now going for a walk and buy some water at the 7/11 across the road. See you later suckaz!!!
