After waking to perfect weather, we headed to the port in Sorrento and caught a ferry to Capri, a small island off the coast, and had one of the best days of the trip so far. After arriving, we immediately hopped onto a small motorboat with about 20 other people and admired the gorgeous coastline on the way to the Blue Grotto, a sea cave where the sunlight shines through the water creating a bright blue color.
At the entrance to the Blue Grotto, men in rowboats paddled to the side of our boat and Steph and I hopped into one with 2 women from Canada. Our driver was incredibly pushy and demanded that we pay him before we entered the cave. I felt so rushed and all of a sudden we were at the entrance to the cave, and in order to get through this very small entrance to the Blue Grotto, we each had to lie down or else your head would be smashed against the top of the rock. The boat was so small and our driver was so pushy that I barely had time to get myself in a lying position because my legs were stuck. Luckily we passed through unharmed. When I sat up and looked down into the water, I could not believe the color that I was seeing. It was unbelievable! I took a few pictures but even though they turned out blurry, at least the color was captured. While singing, our driver rowed to the end of the cave, turned around, and before I knew it we were already exiting! I was so busy taking pictures that I hardly got to enjoy the experience. I had no idea we would only have about 30 seconds inside or else I would have put the camera down. After we exited the cave our driver demanded money for a tip and was rushing us out of his boat back into the motorboat. When I finally settled down in the motorboat, I was feeling very stressed! The drivers get people in and out as fast as they can to make more money, but in doing so, I felt so rushed and felt I didn't get the full experience. But the water was so amazing that I would have done it all over again...
After we arrived back at the port, Steph and I took a little walk to a tiny beach and hung out on the rocks for a while. We ate lunch at an outdoor cafe and then took the ferry back to Sorrento where we caught the tail end of a nice sunset on the rooftop of our hostel. Speaking of the hostel, this place was like a 5-star hotel for only 21 euros a night! It was remodeled this past summer and I would recommend it to anyone passing through Sorrento!
