"Just to get by"
Whats goin on people!?! Sorry weve been a bit slow with the blog lately, been crazy busy over here in the big E. Too many things to talk about in such a small time frame but I will do my best to update you all on some of the things we have been up to.
Seeing as today is the 27th (I think?) we have been here almost 4 weeks. As I said in the previous blog, we hit the job hunt pretty quickly. However, it was quite difficult to find something suitable for the both of us.
I think we were a little bit frustrated cause there was nothing happening, when BAM! Luke got a call for a job for Visit Scotland (a tourism company obviously) and I got one for the City of Edinburgh. Unfortunately for myself I did not get the city job for time frame reasons (they didnt think I would stay long enough) but luckily all Luke needed to do for an interview was show up on his first day.
A week and a half ago Luke started his job and I kept on the job hunt. I gotta say it was one of the most frustrating things to go through. However, it was for the best. I find that sometimes goin through the tough parts of life can be more rewarding than going through the easy ones (not that this was even that tough compared to other people's experiences though). Ive learned quite a bit from this experience, so it will definitely stick with me.
After a few more days of looking my hard work paid and I finally got the call to work for one of the football clubs in Edinburgh, Hibernian FC. I am working in the ticket office, helping to process match and season tickets. Hopefully with the force of our two jobs combined, Luke and I can get some free stuff lol.
Now that we have our jobs sorted we have been out and aboot meeting people, hanging out and enjoying the city. We went on the BUNAC pub meet on Wednesday (BUNAC is the exchange program we applied through) and saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall on Thursday with a bunch of friends from the hostel. Our French Canadian friend Marie dragged us to buy fried Mars bars after cause she heard they were delicious, and man was she right! Pretty darn good is all I have to say.
This weekend we went out to a couple different places with some different people (how much more vague can I be lol). Theres a lot of characters at the hostel, Luke and I especially included, and its been a lot of fun. Well that is except for last night when certain rude individuals decided to "pants party" if you know what I mean, but I wont bore you with those details.
To make a long story short weve been having a pretty cool time. Edinburgh is a really fun city with a lot going on, especially on the weekends. They get pretty crazy on Friday and Saturday here, the city really wakes up on those days.
Weve also been trying to "just get by" so weve been trying to spend minimal amounts of money drinking (only on the cheap nights) and using our student cards for everything we can get away with.
Anyways, gotta run, its a beautiful day here today, which is quite rare for Scotland (it rains a ton here) and I gotta catch some rays. We have TONS of pics to up so please be patient they will be up very soon. Sooo hope Canada (and the world for that matter) is treating you all very nicely and hope to hear from some more of you very soon.
Cheers from Scotty!
