On to Edinburgh, aye...
It is now April 6 and we have been in Edinburgh since last Tuesday. I would have liked to send a blog update sooner but we have been busy, busy, busy.
We spent our last few days in Marple, outside Manchester at the Bennett's finishing our garden work around the house and and playing Disney trivia boardgames with Sarah haha. We also managed to head into downtown Manchester where we did some nice baby shopping.
Steve and Carroll left for Italy on a ski trip on Sunday so we said goobye to them early as we werent leaving for Edinburgh until Tuesday.
Tuesday rolled around pretty quickly despite the fact that we pretty much relaxed the last couple days in Marple.
On Tuesday we boarded a train to Edinburgh which did not take long at all. I believe the trip only took 3 and a half hours in total, which was a nice change from the 8 hour trips in Morocco.
Upon arrival we decided that our first night would be well spent on the pub crawl run by the hostel and we would get down to business in the morning. And that is exactly what we did. It was definitely fun but I think we wanted to hit the job search bright and early.
From Wednesday until the end of the week we spent our time looking for a flat to rent and a job. I guess we chose to look for work in Edinburgh because we heard it was a fun city, as well as quite beautiful, and it definitely is those things. It is extremely old, with some stunning architecture which is pretty well preserved. It is also pretty easy to get around by foot and there are places to go out pretty much everywhere.
With all that being said Edinburgh has been a challenge for us to settle down in. It is not because there are no jobs. There are plenty. It is also not because there are no places to rent. There are plenty of those as well. It is more because of the fact that we need to find something that will be cheap enough to allow us to save a decent amount of money for later, especially considering we are only gonna be here for about 3 months.
Challenges however, are not a bad thing, and I believe that we will be better off in the end because of it. We have found some leads and we are following those. We have given ourselves until next Friday to find a place and work and if we cant get settled by then we will move on and find something else. But I feel like it will work itself out before then.
So to get our mind off things we avoided the bar for the first night in awhile and climbed the mountain overlooking the city. The views were spectaculer. We also went out to see a movie for the the first time in a long time. We saw Drillbit Taylor, which was ok but nothing special. We then talked for awhile with a new friend from the hostel named Vicram who is originally from India and emigrated to Australia, but is now working here for a few months. He has lived a pretty interesting life. We philosophized about life and differences in western and eastern culture. It was cool to do that cause I havent in awhile.
Well it is time to get back to the job/flat hunt so hope everything is great at home. I hear the snow is finally melting, so congrats to everyone on successfully making it out of another winter in Canada. Miss you all and talk to everyone soon.
