Getting ready. Getting anxious about the weather in Northern Spain. Jean and I leave NZ on the 23rd April 2018 and start walking from St Jean Pied de Porte to Orrisson on the 25th April, ANZAC Day.

Day 41. Santiago de Compostela. We are here. Already the walk this morning seems a long time ago. Lovely walk after the rain talked with two seminarians from the states. 9 kms or so. Got to the cathedral feeling a bit tearful me not Hugh. Happy to end but feel a loss too. Went to get the Compostela and stood in lone for 45 mins. Day 40. Salceda to Vilamaior, Lavacollo 18-21 km. some up 400m 450 down. Should have 9km left for tomorrow. Rain was expected today 90% chance by 2:00. Now four and still no rain. They really need it. Had dinner with Kathy. Elliot and daughter Merin from Oregon. Dinner was at eight a bit late for peregrinos but was very good off to breakfast and then the road. Day 39. Boente to Salceda 19.46 km 465m up 490 down. A very pleasant walk with lots of shade. Happy birthday dear jenny. Kate see I am still rocking the scallop. The country side is rich and green. The corn is growing well except where the rain was missed an it is very patchy and stunted. Still lots of birds butterflies and dragonflies. Day38. Palas de Rei to Boente. A farewell dinner with Lisette and Julio. Really nice evening. Glad I met them and spent time with them. Away just after 8;00 made good progress. Fog lifted earlier today and it got warm from about 9,30. Lots of shade and old sunken paths to walk on woods to walk through. Very lucky. Lunch at Melide. Nice woman complaining of the heat.
