We got up and surprised dad with some presents for Father's Day today and made him breaky in bed.
Today we went to Sovreign Hill in Ballarat. Sovreign Hill is a gold mining settlement that is a big tourist attraction.
Ballarat was a big mining town in the 1800-1900's, in 1858 the second biggest gold nugget was found here, it is still the second biggest nugget found in Australia to date. It is called the Welcome Nugget.
Over a 25 year period The Sovreign Hill mine produced lots of gold, in todays pricies it was about 14 billion dollars worth.
The largest nugget found in Australia is called the Welcome Stranger and was found in a Victorian town called Moliagul.
We liked the town because all of the people were dressed in olden day clothes and they spoke like the olden days, the shops also looked a lot different to our shops today.
We went on a horse and coach ride and it was fun, we also panned for Gold and we found a small peice of gold which we were allowed to keep.
The soldiers did a march through the town to show us all what it would have been like back in their times and they fired their guns and they were really really loud and the ground shook.
We bought some lollies from the sweet store, they made the sweets in the shop.
We then went back to Melbourne where we had a bbq with our cousins and celebrated some more of Father's day.
Today we travelled 226kms to Ballarat and back.
