Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Friday.
Early pick up from KT hotel to head for Phi Phi Don. Dropped our rucksacks off at the Travel agent so that we only had our day packs to carry with us. Got the 1hr ferry to get there and found our way to our pre-booked accommodation.
Unfortunately it was scummy, stained walls, FHM on the bedside table and just nasty in general! So we complained big time, to pretty much get laughed at in return. We couldn't get a refund so the choice was either to sleep in the flea pit or pay extra and upgrade to a pretty nice bungalow instead, which we of course opted for. After a stressful morning, we headed
for the nearby 'Carpe Diem' restauarnt/ bar, which was opposite the resort in which we were staying. It was an awesome place- built like a wooden treehouse- with beanbags by the tables and carved wooden benches, overlooking the gorgeous white sand beach and crytal emerald waters. That was our hang out on Phi Phi Don and had great rasta bar staff as well.
We asked them about tours to Phi Phi Ley (where 'The Beach' was filmed) and one of the guys said he'd give us a private trip in a longtail boat for even cheaper than if we were going with a group, so we were chuffed.
After that, we set off along the main stretch of the island, checking out a few shops and passed a restaurant called Phi Phi Don Chukit. Darren had already been pronouncing Phi Phi island as "Fee Fee" and thought "Phuket" meant something slighlty different. So when we passed this restaurant, we re-christened it- "Fee Fee, Don't Chuck it!!" It was highly amusing at the time OK?!
We got dinner at a crazy BBQ place where they were slapping on all of the fish caught that day and the chefs were hacking away at full chickens, with small axes, and puting them on the bbq too. Was pretty cool.
Back to 'Carpe Diem' for drinks- they'd taken an old hull of a boat and stuck it at the top of the beach infront of the bar and converted it into an awesome chill out seating area with bean bags. So we lounged about there and were treated to an amazin Fire show. In the bar, they had something called "Fire school", where people came to practise fire-throwing/dancing on the beach. Earlier in the day we'd watched guys practising, but now in the dark, with the flames, it looked awesome. Got some cool videa clips of them all and the photos came out pretty funky. After that we had a nice stroll along the powdery white sand beach, under the stars and (almost full) moon- had a little paddle in the warm sea, before heading back to the resort.
