So me and Fiona had a pretty early start today to get our Rock Patrol tour with Groovy Grapes. However we could hav had an extra while in bed as our bus was about 45 minutes late in picking us up!! Apparently there was a problem with the speedometer not working properly or something. But never mind we did eventually make it on the bus and left Adelaide, which i must admit i was not that sad about!

So our 1st destination was Coober Pedy but to get there we had to drive about 900kms (no idea wot that is in miles) and it was thru lots of nothingness. The outback is certainly a very empty place, gutted i didn’t see any tumble weeds tho!!

So got into Coober Pedy around dinner time. Now i must admit i was a bit gutted when we rocked up and there were buildings on top of the ground, Now for those of u who don’t know anything about Coober Pedy, its in the middle of the desert and gets so hot that people live underground. So i was expecting to see just some chimneys poking out of the ground and no buildings what so ever, however there were quite a few situated on the surface which upset me a little bit. We were also sleeping underground for the next 2 nites. I was expecting to hav to get in a lift to go far underground but u just kind of walked into a cave, in all fairness there was a giant hill on top of us! It was pretty cool, there were curtained off room with 2 bunk beds in them. So me, Fiona and Ann Marie (an Irish girl from the bus) all shared a room together.

So for dinner we went to John’s Pizza Place, was ok but not something to write home about. When we were leaving there a footie team came in and asked us where we were off to that night and we said the pub across the road, see u later. So we actually walked round the pub and in the back enterance because u had to go down a spiral staircase which made u feel like u were actually going underground rather than just walkin in the front door. So we all sat there having a few drinks, managed to persuade a few people to stay later and then everyone went to bed expect me, Ann Marie and a Dutch girl. We ended up chatting to the football team who came in, unfortunately they were not locals but came from a town down the road Roxby which wasn’t too bad. The bar actually shut at midnight and we sat chatting for about another hour, without them chucking us out which i was surprised at! The football boys kept trying to get us to come out with them after but even tho me and Ann Marie wanted to go neither of us said and the Dutch girl didn’t want to walk back herself so we ended up just going back. We did stop to do a bit of star gazing and saw the Southern Cross for the first time. One of the footie boys actually had the southern cross tattooed on his torso and had his parents and 2 siblings names above the 4 big stars, but there is a random wee star in it as well, so we were joking about that he was the wee stupid star, don’t think he was to impressed lol!!

So eventually we got back to our cave at about 1am. Dont think Fi was too impressed that we woke her up! After we got into bed and turned the lights out, it was totally dark u couldn’t see a thing! Anyway we heard this really weird noise that sounded like a pig but me and Ann Marie were to scared to get up and check! We were so scared moving to top bunks was considered so it couldn’t get us!! Anyway managed to sleep safely and the wild pig didn’t attack us lol!
