So after being sick multiple times, shoving all my clothes back in my rucksack and being told off for checking out late, I am back on the tram to the train station! Not living my best life!! ha ha
Again, I managed to navigate both the tram and then sort out the train to Rotterdam, not sure how as I was so hungover!! But hey ho!
I am not really sure why I chose to come to Rotterdam, it never looks very pretty but I remember when I was first planning my trip, just seeing it was quite close to Amsterdam, so why not! It wasn't until I got on the train to Rotterdam Centraal station, that I realised I didn't know how to get to the hostel when I got there! But after a quick google search, I found it was right near a station called Rotterdam Blaak. Another quick google search said that the train I was on called there. Another fluke win!
The internet makes travelling so so much easier! I honestly don't know how I would get through this trip (or life in general!) without it! Plus with no roaming charges, its even better (Another reason not to leave the EU!!!
The hostel I had booked is called Stayokay and I chose it as it is located in these amazing buildings called Cube Houses, designed by Piet Blom - which look really cool. I have another dorm booked and I have to say my back is starting to hurt from the hard bed in Amsterdam!
The train journey took about 40 mins and then I was at Blaak station. I walked out and there were the cube houses right in front of me! Perfect!
My room wasn't quite ready so I just sat in the bar and had a drink - couldn't quite face a pint just yet so just had a coke light! Amsterdam has done me in!!
Once my room was ready, I chose my bed as you don't get allocated one, so I got a bottom bunk this time! Result! I was still feeling a bit ropey so sorted my bag out a bit, its a huge room so lots of room to unpack and repack which I needed to do as I had just literally shoved everything in the bag that morning in two minutes! I then had a rest and dropped off for an hour!
As I said, Rotterdam isn't probably your most go to place and I hadnt planned loads of things to do but one of the things I had seen when I was planning was a big food hall called Markthal and after a quick google search, it was just over the road! I also realised I hadn't eaten anything at all that day (due to aforementioned hangover!!) so I had a quick shower and headed out to find food.
The building itself that it is in is amazing! Hard to describe but this huge glass tunnel filled with bars and restaurants which has apartments around the sides. Really pretty too with it still having the Christmas decorations and lights up (shocked me at first as Christmas seems like months ago!!) so I went in for a wander around. Wow! The choice was amazing! every little kiosk was a different food or culture - even fish and chips!
By then I was starving (Hangry even!!) and then in true Kirsty style, I got completely overwhelmed by the choice (must be 50 stalls!), realised I really needed to eat right then and there so just picked one quickly - a burger and wine place. It was only when I had ordered a glass of wine, that I realised I don't actually eat meat anymore...!! Luckily, there was actually not just one, but two veggie burgers on the menu!! Still, probably not the best place for a veggie to eat!!
The burger was amazing!! so so nice but huuuuge and I couldnt finish it all! The weather wasnt great either, rainy, so I decided to just to grab a couple of beers and then went to the hostel bar and watch netflix - not very rock and roll for a Saturday night but hey ho! I also realised I had watched the last episode of You whilst being a bit tipsy so couldnt quite remember the ending!! So I watched it again! Ha ha!
Then it was off to bed dreaming of being stalked by the fit, gorgeous serial killer!!
