I didnt get up to much on Monday, I just went for a last wander in the snow around the old town and went for some really nice food at a mexican restaurant.
Today, I get the bus to Riga! I was up early and made breakfast before I left the hostel (The guy who works there was actually shocked to see me up! ha ha) and then got the tram to the bus station. I havent paid on the tram since I got here - oops!
I had booked my bus ticket in advance with a company called Lux Express, which I found as the buses looked really modern and comfy. Its a 4 1/2 hour journey so not that bad. The bus was ace! It only cost 14 euros and you got free water, tea and coffee, a pillow and a blanket and the seats all had tv screens in that you could watch films and stuff on! Just like a nice flight! It was ace. I watched two films and the journey flew by. In some places, the scenery was really nice too, it was so snowy and pretty!
I realised that I wasnt certain how to get to my next hostel from the bus station in Riga so I used the free wifi to try and find it and realised it was a 30 min walk. and I wasnt sure about public transport. For some reason,I hadnt thought it was that far! It was snowing quite heavy when I got off the bus so didnt fancy the walk with my backpacks so I asked a taxi driver how much it would be and he said 10 euros so I decided to just get a taxi! My first lazy luxury so far!
I got to my hostel around 5.30pm and checked in, bottom bunk again! woo woo! Its very nice and clean too. I had a quick shower, unpacked what I could and got ready to go out. The hostel is around a 15-20 min walk to the old town, which I hadnt realised either but I walked in through the heavy snow! It was very cold!! The area I am staying in isnt touristy at all but it seems very safe and I am happy to walk around. I found my way to a bar that sold guinness!! woo woo! ha ha and sat and had a few pints and facetimed a few people.
I wandered around a bit more but it was so cold and so snowy that its hard to be outside for too long! I found a bar called Kiwi bar and had a few gins, the music was ace - right up my street! The bar girls were lovely too and came and chatted to me throughout the night and then an irish guy from Cork called Brendan came and sat with me and we chatted for ages, it was really nice. I ended up staying out till about 5am! Then walked home through the snow and found a falafel place on my way home! A good start to my few days in Riga!!
