Woke up mega early this morning feeling like absolute crap! Id got a bit of a sore throat yesterday but today it felt like I had swallowed razor blades and my ears were so sore! I took some paracetamol as thats all I had with me and tried to sleep it off but after a couple of hours I decided to go find a chemist. I felt rotten though and it took all my energy just to get dressed. I went downstairs and asked the hostel lady if there was a chemist nearby and she asked what was wrong. She told me to go back to bed and she would go for me! Bless her! I was so pleased as it was snowing hard and I just wanted to be wrapped up!
About half an hour later, she came up to my room with some orange juice, some tablets for the pain in my ears and to help with my temparature and a bowl of soup!! I could have kissed her! She is so lovely.
I spent the day and night sleeping mainly and watching netflix but the pain in my ears got worse. It was my last day and night here too so I was upset to be spending it in bed.
The next morning the hostel lady asked me how I was feeling and I said my ears were really sore so she suggested I visiting the chemist myself and she told me where there was an emergency one open 24 hours where they spoke english. I was checking out that day but my flight wasnt until 6 so she said not to rush and I could check out when I needed to bless her.
I headed to the chemist and within 5 minutes slipped in the snow and fell on my arse! Typical! I felt so sorry for myself ha ha! I found the chemist and the pharmacist was lovely, it was just like visiting a doctor. she examined my ears and said I had an infection and gave me some antibiotics and some painkillers - it only cost a few euros too!
I then went for some breakfast at a cute little french cafe as I hadnt really eaten much the day before, just the soup and then I chilled in the hostel and blogged until it was time to go to the airport.
Next stop is Minsk in Belarus! The place I was most intrigued by but also a bit apprehensive about as I had read that they are not the most friendly bunch and not many people spoke english - it is mainly russian that they speak. The country is very much still run as a dictatorship and I think the government is quite corrupt - plus its the only country in Europe that still has the death penalty! I was quite shocked when I read that!
I hadnt really want to fly much on this trip as I am not a great flyer! Plus the buses and trains are much cheaper but unless you fly into Minsk, you have to apply for a visa beforehand and I didnt want to do that in case my plans changed and also the visa process seemed a hassle so I had decided to fly, plus the flight was only 40 minutes.
The snow was still coming down though and the runway was so snowy! My flight was delayed slightly, by about 30 mins, but then no updates were showing on the screen so I wandered down to the gate and I was the last there! Oops!
Then I saw the plane...........it was tiny!! I had to run over the runway in the snow as they were waiting for me and the steps to the plane were literally 6 steps, it was the door that was down and the steps were on the back of it. I think it was a good thing that it was all a big rush as I was freaking out about it but didnt have time to! There was only about 20 seats on the plane! It was awful, so small and crowded. I literally sat down, and didnt move the entire flight, didnt even take my coat off - just sat there with my eyes closed!! It was so bumpy!! I hated every minute of it and was so pleased it was such a short flight!! Not fun at all!
It then took me ages to get through security, they are very strict and were looking at my passport for ages, and looking at it through this magnifying glass thing. They wanted to know why my passport was so new....erm coz its new!? I finally got my stamp (first one in my new passport!) and got through. I had booked a pick up through the hostel and the guy was there waiting for me with a sign that said 'Mrs Kristy'!
It took about 30 mins to get to the hostel and there was some crazy assed driving going on! It was also snowing again and had forecast to be minus 14!
Checked in my hostel and it was a top bunker!! Rubbish! Plus it was the most rickety bed ever and everytime I climbed the ladder, they slipped off and the whole bed shook! Nice and relaxing then!
It was about 10pm so I just headed out for a drink. I dont get data roaming here included so I tried to map my way on an old fashioned paper map which was hard going in the dark and snow! I didnt really know where I was heading but found a really nice bar and sat and had a couple of drinks before finding my way back (and getting lost!) to the hostel ready for a night in the creakiest bed ever!!
