It's Valentine's Day :) not soo romantic for us. We exchanged a few gifts, Kenny bought a card but didn't write it and that was about it. We got the bus to Da Lat and it arrived after 7 hours. We met three Chinese girls on bus from Shenzhen, as we got back seat, which was about to become a habit. They ended up coming to our hostel, Paradise Backpackers, and spending the next few days with us. We went to crazy house, which was a very strangely designed hotel that they had threatened to rip down a few times, with like a tree basis and lots of bridges and animals in the making. Hard to describe but will see in pictures. The dog 'Coffee' followed us there and around it. We then all went for dinner, where we had a difficult time trying to order but got there in the end with the biggest chicken fried rice I've had, couldn't actually finish it all. But we did realise how cold Da Lat is at night.
Today was Kennys bday :) We went canyoning with Highland Tours. The best $25 usd I've ever spent. The free breakfast of peanut butter banana roll was great, but I was a bit disappointed in the coffee, which contained condensed milk. We had a brilliant day, good lunch, good equipment, good fun. So what is canyoning? Basically abseiling down waterfalls, sliding down waterfalls backwards, dropping from waterfalls and cliff jumping. Soo much fun!! Would definitely try it again. We even sang happy bday on the way home. We then went out for dinner at pizza place and had a few beer. 8 of us; Gill, Flo, James, Georgie, Cathal, Dave and us. I had got lost on the way to the bakery to find Kennys cake but it was worth it to see his wee smile when we put the candles on and sang again. Then shared the rest with other in the restaurant and the staff.
We didn't have any plans for today apart from a lie in, so we had that and then were dragged to the Kings summer palace, not really our cup of tea but it kept the Chinese girls happy. Then rented a bike and had the most random funny day. Only cost $4usd for the day after 12pm. So they had drawn us a map and I was navigator, my best skill, not. We met a guy called Charlie near the start and he came with us. Passing through many greenhouses full of flowers, driving along a windy road (which had been newly paved) we saw such beautiful scenery. First stop Me Linh coffee plantation where we tried the weasel coffee (same kind of idea as the stuff in Bali). Kenny and Charlie got weasel moka and I got weasel arabica sour. 60,000dong compared to 250,000 in the town. A beautiful view for beautiful coffee. Then onto elephant falls to jump around a waterfall base. Next we found the big laughing buddha and then onto the silk factory. Here we watched how they make the silk from silk worms. We wanted to watch sunset so I suggested we watch it by the lake.
Charlie jokingly said we should get a few beer and sit in a pedalow so that's exactly what we did; the three of us squished into a swan on the lake with a tiger beer each...So random. Then had a thai hotspot at the restaurant above the good bakery; was pretty good although a bit spicy for me.
