5 days on the island of maui have gone, and soon I am back off to Oahu again.
I flew here on friday morning, and my first impression was pretty bad. I didnt get picked up at the airport, and after two buses, I finally arrived here, not impressed. The hostel itself is definitely not pretty! Very shabby and it's pretty obvious that they don't really bother to do any effort to keep it clean or make it look better. I went to have a look around town, which was pretty crap. It is a tiny little town, whcih has a coupl eof shops, a Mc Donalds and a Subway. Not even a proper supermarket. To add to that, I didn't really feel safe walking around here by myself, even in daylight. Needless to say, the first night was not so good, I went to bed early, and told myself it would be better the next day. After all I was here for the tours, and only that.
Up early on Saturday, it was the day of the volcano hike tour. 20 km hike through the world's biggest dormant volcano! And what a trip it was! I was so happy to have done it, even though tha last aprt was HARD! It was so amazing to actually be there and hike a volcano! I also got to know many people which made my day even better. Many Swiss people who I talked to a lot, German people and one Danish guy who I could speak Norwegian with. Good some tiimes when everyone else were speaking German! It was a loong day, but definetely worth it!
Sunday was beach day,and I wasn't sure whether to go or not. Apparantly I had no choice as one of the Swiss boys alreaady signed me up for the trip without asking me first! I am happy about that now though, as we had a good time. it was actually a nude beach, and very interesting. My first time on a nude beach,a nd i don't know if I will go back. I defintely saw some things I wish I didn't see. The nude people were mostly old! Eww... I even saw a naked old man bending over!! Getting back to the hostel, we had some drinks and sat in the jacuzzi talking. Great!
Many of the Swiss people left on Monday, but there were still good people left, and Monday we went hiking Iao valley. a short tour, but very nice. I have done so much walking lately, I must be in good shape! It was a walk up to "The Iao needle" through the jungle. Kind of the same as the hike on Cook Islands. Then a refreshing cold bath in fresh water after.
A group of us decided to spend the afternoon in Lahaina, Maui's biggest city. We jumped on a bus and spent the evening there. It was such a quaint and cute little town, I really liked it. For dinner we had a great Vietnamese meal as a great ending to a great day!
Yesterday and Tuesday was a full day Hana tour. The road to Hana is very famous for being beautiful and very windy, as in a lot of turns and swings. People often get very car sick! We were out all day and stopped at great places to take photos and have lunch. We had some hours at a black sand beach, but after a massive wave got me and threw me onto the beach again, I was too scared to go out in the water anymore! We also did a hike up to a big waterfall, so much hiking lately! Coming back, my German roommate Anna and I shared a bottle of wine in the jacuzzi, with our other Swiss and Danish friends. After all it was our last night all together, after they kicked us out of there we sat in out room for a little while before we all were too tired to talk anymore!
Now it is Wednesday and Maui is over for me. It got better and better for each day here, and I am happy I came. i have met a lot of great people, and hope I will meet them again. It has been raining here all day so far and i wil now go to the airport, hoping for better weather on Oahu!
