Finally getting around to writing about my last week in Hawaii. That week went so fast, and things turned out differently than what I thought it would.
After sleeping at Maiken's place on the Wednesday night, I moved to a hostel in Waikiki for the last 6 nights in Hawaii. Many of the people from Maui were there, or would be there, and I decided that staying there was the best option for me.
The first couple of days, I hung out at the beach and met up with people again. When I checked in, I bumped into Danish guy. Later that night I went out with one of the Swiss guys, a Brazilian guy who also had been at the Maui hostel, and two Germans. Another Swiss girl came on Friday. It was nice to have a couple of relaxing days in the sun, and to see everyone again. Met so many nice people at Maui!
Saturday, Maiken and Sam took me out for a day trip up to the North shore. It was a really nice day, and we took small stops along the way at interesting places, ate shave ice, and had a photo shoot on the beach. As we expected the waves to be massive, we didn't even bring our bikinis, so no swimming, but the waves were actually quite calm for this time of year. I can say I have been around the whole island now, which is good!
Sunday was another relaxing beach day. I love being on the beach, I want to live on one! We were lucky with the weather for the first days back on O'ahu too, and I got enough sun to get a tan, which probably will be gone by the time I come back to Norway though.... In the afternoon, Swiss boy Sven and Swiss girl Caroline and myself hiked up Diamond Head and got a great view of Waikiki. That hike was nothing after all the hikes we did on Maui though, just a nice and easy one!
German girl Anna, who was my roommate in Maui, came, and was also my roommate in Waikiki for a couple of days. I also had a French girl in my room, who randomly was going on the same day trip as me to the Big Island. I had already booked it when she checked into the room, and asked me about it. I told her she should book it on the same day as me, and..voila! I didn't have to go alone after all!
Monday morning, French girl Laetitia and myself had to get up at 5 am to go on a full day tour to the Big Island. The island group of Hawaii is made up of 8 main islands, whereas Hawaii Big Island is the biggest. O'ahu is the touristy one where I spent most time, but also 5 days on Maui. I wanted to check out Big Island, but heard it was quite boring, so I took a chance on a day tour instead. It is only 45 minutes by plane one way, so not far at all. The tour went around the whole island in one day, and as the name says, it is a Big Island! We made some stops here and there, and I felt we saw a lot, and that it was worth the money, but if I could stay longer, I would have had more time in the Volcano park. After the sun goes down, you can sometimes see flowing lava, now that would be very very cool. Maybe next time!
Tuesday, back on O'ahu, it rained...and rained, and rained. The plan was to go to the beach, but we gave up and Sven and I went to Ala Moana shopping mall, which used to be the biggest in USA. I also met Maiken there and said goodbye to her. Didn't buy too much, as I don't really have that much room in my backpack anymore, but I did spend a long time in Victoria's Secret and Forever 21!! My last night, I went out in Waikiki, another guy from Maui had checked into the hostel, and a group of us went out. I got drunk, had fun, made some Korean friends, and pretended to be Japanese! Hahaha!
Wednesday was my last day on Hawaii. 3 weeks had already passed, crazy! I had such a great time there, and met so many good people. I miss the sun and the beach, and Yoghurtland and all the people I met. Most of them left before me though, when I left there was only Swiss Sven and Alaskan Jimmy left. My plane didn't leave until 9 pm, so I put my stuff in the guys' room, and Sven and I hung out at the beach, although it was pretty cloudy, it was my last day and I needed the beach for the last time in a loong time! It was sad to say goodbye, and sad to leave. But somehow I feel like I will be back..after all this was my 3rd time there already!
Anyways, I had 3 wonderful weeks there and experienced so much more and met so many more people than I ever thought I would! I still haven't left the country, I am just a lot more colder now, and will write about that another day!
