Awoke to cloudy skies but no rain. Today we planned to take a city tour bike ride that lovely Lauren had recommended to us. We met our tour guide Wahib - an English/Pakistani gay guy. We couldn't have chosen better. Our group consisted of 9 Aussies, 2 New Zealanders, a family of 4 from Portugal and 5 Brits. Berlin is flat, which is the perfect cycling topography for moi! (I am still trying to forget the French vineyard saga:)
The tour took us around the city, stopping at landmarks where Wahib in his totally politically incorrect way, explained the history. The story of Berlin became so much clearer to us all. We cycled through Tiertargten park - so beautiful, and stopped at a beer garden in the middle of the park, for lunch and a beer. Great to sit and chat to the others in the group. Everybody has a story!!
The 5 hours ended far too quickly. It was the best fun and a great way to see the city.
Beer o'clock then home to prepare for dinner. Another night of getting lost in the streets, so much so, that we didn't end up finding a place to eat until well after 9. Ordinary meal - probably the lamb wasn't the wisest choice. Was cooked to within an inch of its life, and seriously challenged the strength of my arm and the knife to actually cut through it. Not convinced on German food quite yet. Might go Vietnamese next.
Tomorrow we are heading to an area called Potsdam by train. My tour guide assures me it is meant to be pretty spesh. I think he is most excited about possibly being able to use the Berlin discount card. So far we have saved a total of $9 and the card cost $29. Perhaps we may get to save another $5 - the excitement is tangible:)
