Overnight in a lovely campsite right on the beach we breakfasted with the sound of the waves, watching parrakeets scratching around on the ground for food.
Our first major driving day, we drove through huge sugar cane and banana plantations and small farming towns with mountains looming in the distance. We stopped at Josephine Falls for lunch. A lovely waterfall which we have since renamed Philip Falls as, you guessed it, Phil fell in while clambering on rocks managing to scrape his leg and waterlog his video camera, charger and phone. (All have since come back to life thankfully!)
We then stopped at Paronella Park, a strange but very nice tourist attraction featuring a spanish castle set in the middle of rainforest and gardens. Camping was free with your ticket so we spent a pleasant few hours exploring the park before having a BBQ and then going back into the park for a night tour. The night tour was good fun though Phil was worrying himself to death thinking of the poisonous creatures he might encounter. The highlight of the evening was seeing swarms of fireflies and creeping into a tunnel to see baby bats clustered together on the ceiling.
