On arrival in Sydney we opted to stay in a campsite on the outskirts rather than brave the city traffic. The campsite was lovely - in a national park and teeming with wildlife (including a fat possum that seemed obsessed with nibbling Kims toes and rather nervous Bilbys - long nosed furry creatures).
We headed into Sydney on the bus, crossing over the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge en route. We immediately opted to do a harbour cruise as the sun was shining - a fantastic way to see the sights though the wind was icy and you had to look out for chairs being blown violently across the deck....keeps you alert anyway! We explored the historic "Rocks" area on foot (calling in to a German pub to sample the local brews and a Chinese restaurant to reminisce over our time in China.) Mark can now officially stand to eat rice again you'll be pleased to know!
Heading back to the campsite proved to be a challenge as we had absolutely no idea where to get off the bus. We got off at the wrong stop, walked about 3kms in FREEZING wind in our t-shirts, had to cross a road the size of the M25 and then got stuck in some roadworks. Fun - they don't put that in the guidebooks about Sydney!
The following day, not able to face the bus again, we drove into Sydney. We saw the views from the Sydney Tower and experienced the rather random 'Oztrek' a cinema experience with moving seats which told you random things about Australia. We also braved the walk onto the Harbour Bridge in the pouring rain!
