En route to Swakopmond we stopped at Cape Cross to visit the seal colony. Cape Cross is where the first Europeans landed in Namibia in 16 something... I don't think the seals are aware of this fact but they have taken up residence in huge numbers. 100,000 seals make an awful lot of noise and an awfully bad smell!!
Swakopmond itself is a small seaside German town - you'd think it was Europe not Africa! We spent 4 days here altogether, relaxing in a hotel room (bliss after so long camping!!!!) Highlights of Swakopmond include quad biking in the Namib desert dunes and sampling ostrich, oryx and springbok (yum!)
Kims birthday fell during our stay in the town and we went horseriding in the dunes and had a nice seafood lunch overlooking the sea. The afternoon was spent at a very random german festival called Kuska. We decided to check it out after a random woman dressed as a native american ran over to kim in the street and made her swig Jack Daniels from the bottle - a good omen we felt! The festival was mad but fun with drunken german women making Kim dance with them and rather a lot of Jaegermeister shots!
A german man asked Mark where he was from - he replied England - to which the german man replied 'ah you're here cos you're out of the football' Cheek.
