Melecca/Meleka I don't know how you spell it I've seen it both ways so i take it that one way is the local language.
We arrived... Got ourselves to jonker street as that's where the guidebooks say all the travellers go, we even booked a place to stay. Great reviews, said that they hosted activities for their lodgers but it was fan only- surely we could deal with fan only?
Well my lovely friends and family let me tell you this me and jess are aircon snobs. As if we could possibly sleep with a fan. But we stuck it out I basically mean that we had the worst five days of our lives. We couldn't sleep, we woke up every five minutes, the first night we were in a room where the mosquito net so jess got covered in bites, then they moved our room and after speaking to some locals I refused to open our windows In case monkeys managed to get in. Towards the end the widow stayed open permanently. We were never clean, we slept for a few hours a night and even then I still don't know if we were asleep. We were constantly tired, grouchy miserable.
Meleka itself was a complete wrote off for us. However we did manage to have some amazing food at the geographers cafe - go there if your ever headed that way. We made friends with some English people living out there and spent a night chatting over a few beers with some travellers in a little shack across the road.
We also had pineapple tarts which were amazingly epic. OBSESSION. And went to the night market which has a variety of stands, rammed with people and where I found some hair grips!!!! HIGH 5 It really is the little things in life (no Grampy this doesn't mean that I would be happy with hair grips for Xmas but I would like a bike - just in case you're reading ;p)
We did manage to post some presents back home, we attempted to bike ride but the bike broke on us. And yes we literally did run and leave - awful aren't we? There was also the night of smoke where the night before we left our whole room filled with smoke from outside (the windows had to be opened by this stage- otherwise I fear me and jess would have killed each other or does anyways. It got to the stage where I simply thought let the monkeys get us, were heading that way anyway. Practically sat there screaming GIVE ME RABIES!!!) anyways jess thought the hotel was on fire but until this day we have no idea what it was. The one thing we do know tho is our clothes reek so were currently modelling smoke de toilette.
Although I make it sound like we didn't do alot we still managed to have a walk about town by the river, visit little India. See a big cog, a shop, a fort and go to the mall.... And the cinema to see now you see me which is our new favourite film ever. I also tried rose petal tea for the first time- ended up with a mouthful of rose petals but it looked really pretty when I was drinking it....
Well after Meleka were making our way to Singapore to catch a flight to Bali EEEEEEEEK! So ill update you all from the airport.
Peace and love
Kim and jess xo
