HELLO GEORGETOWN,
Malaysia is beautiful. We have arrived and it is a beautiful day (ok I'm probably exaggerating, today isn't actually that beautiful... The sky looks like its about to pour with rain... And me and jess currently have no idea where were saying) were aware through research into penang that love lane is the plavce for travellers - but where is love lane? We're still not great travellers, more FLASHPACKERS. Because of this reason we both decided that instead of fanning about deciding which way to walk we might as well get a taxi. It took us twenty minutes to decide to get a taxi and cost us an earth shattering less than £2. Maybe we need to work on our time management....
We found somewhere to stay and went out to grab a but to eat, ended up in little India where I managed to secure the most delicious Indian I have even had in my life. It consisted of approx 12 little dishes of different vegetarian dishes, a papadam, some form of bread and a heap of rice. It cost me about £1.60 and worth every penny. It was so nice I try a number of different dishes in one meal and as I became accustomed to this will be expecting my mum to prepare me a selection of different dishes for every meal. After all we like ago have a choice don't we.
We went to the national park and did a trek through it to monkey beach, me and jess are clearly the hiking type... I rephrase jess may be the hiking type. It took us about an hour and a half to get to monkey beach, by which stage I had been cared by monkeys, clinged onto a rope for dear life and climbed over a boulder (documented by jess, who everytime decides to announce "I never thought I'd see this in my life" so every walk we manage to go on she snaps an outrageous picture to apparently prove I did it. Insert sweaty, annoyed, messy kim. Personally when she's laughing whilst snapping these terrible photos you can tell there's an ulterior motive and I understand that at any point these could be used as some form
Of blackmail in the future)
Anyways the national park was really cool, I felt like I was in the middle of the jungle in the middle of nowhere (which I guess to a degree we were) me and jess seemed to morph into some hiking power rangers during the trip. Jumping down off rocks and swinging (clinging to ropes) we arrived at monkey beach to see no monkeys! The wind had started getting up a bit and a local boat man told us a storm was coming. Now this may have been a smooth tactic by this man or there may have been a storm brewing. Me and jess decided to get a taxi boat back after our previous experience on an island we decided that It would be safer on all accounts to get our feet planted on some firm mainland.
In Dubai we met a lovely man called lim, he lives in penang. And we were lucky enough to have him and his beautiful girlfriend Elisa show us around. Lim picked us up on Saturday morning at 8.30am. And oh-my-geeee I have never done so much in one day. We saw loads of street art, went to china house cafe which had a gallery above it and tables covered in huge pieces of paper to draw on, china house had graffiti all overt the walls of local penang places of interest, colourful oragami strings in the garden and material tie wishing trees. We went to an old, traditional mansion house, went to the jettys, set some birds free- had a local ice pop! Jess's had red kidney beans in it.... I think ill stick to putting them in my chilli... We also saw a Chinese temple, went to an Indian mosque and ate some hawker food. We had a bit of a photo sesh this day. Messing about with the street art, jumping and generally having alot of fun! That night we went to the marina and saw lim, have his dragon boat practice and arrived back at our hotel very tired and worn out from an exhausting but incredibly exciting day.
In Penang me and jess managed to do a little shopping and I got my hair cut, dyed and treated for just 30.00 (need to be having words with Toni and guy back home) the clothes were so unique and I swear if we had been there for just a holiday we would have shopped till we dropped!!!!
We saw lim and Elisa later in the week when they took us to a pet store! It was amazing - you can buy a raccoon and stingrays! We also went up to the goddess of mercy temple and the top of penang hill and ate some ABC you should all google this!!!!
Me and jess spent the rest of our time in penang at various art galleries and museums, drinking coffee at small coffee houses, visiting the fort and watching Shakespeare at a performing arts centre and lim also took us to the botanical gardens!
Lim and Elisa made our time in Penang amazing for us we just hope they come over to England at some point! Ohhhh and ps we will be back for your wedding ;)
