We flew from Melbourne on Saturday at the wonderful hour of 10am! Got one of the very first MRT trains at 6.30am. The flight was good, had the nicest pasta ever. It didn't even taste like plane food. I also watched Night at the Museum, which was good. We arrived in Melbourne at 8.30pm, the bus we thought we were getting stopped at 6.30 so we had to get a taxi to our hostel, which cost us a small fortune. We got really confused on the time difference as they don't have summer time, but the time we actually thought it was, was right but we thought we were wrong. It was all very very confusing. As it was St Patricks Day and we were staying in St Kilda, which is the party town of Melbourne, it was packed with people. We felt a bit stupid not going out, especially as we went food shopping instead. The hostel is nice, no complaints there.
On the Sunday it was the last day of the Australian Grand Prix, and it was right next to where we were staying so we had a peek through the fence to see if we could see anything. It was pretty awesome and so loud, we couldn't get a close up view but what we could see was wicked (we didn't care enough to buy tickets for $99) After that we walked to the city centre which was a lot further way than anticipated, it took a while. We had lunch of a bench by the river and then went around the shops. I had to buy some trousers as it is a lot colder here than I thought it would be and I had sent all my trousers home. Stupid Plan! I can't even remember what we did in the evening. It can't have been that exciting!
Monday we went to St Kilda beach, it wasn't really that hot, so I didn't even attempt to go in the water, though Kate did. Still managed to get sunburn somehow. We wandered around the pier and some nearby shops, Kate almost bought a cork hat then changed her mind. I think she's going to buy one in Sydney. In the evening Kate made me dinner and we watched Desperate Housewives! I also discovered that Australia is behind the UK in Lost and so the new episode this week was the last one I watched at home. I am quite excited by this.
Yesterday we moved hostels, it was cheaper to get three nights in one and then seven in another. This was done pretty quickly, so we went into the city centre to change our flights and set up bank accounts. the flights we managed to change but we needed proof of address for the bank accounts so we can't do that until tommorrow. We then checked out the Australian Centre Of The Moving Image. There wasn't really much there so we went in the Ian Potter Centre next door, which is an art gallery. That was a lot better. Last night after we had dinner (leftovers from the night before) we went down to the hostel bar as it was open mic night, we didn't stay long as no-one was singing and it seemeed a bit pointless. We played cards instead.
Today we went to the Scienceworks museum and Planetarium. That was awesome. We really enjoyed it, like being a kid on a school trip again. That was just out of the city in a place called Spotswood. On the way back we went food shopping and I discovered a Krispy Kreme shop! My life is now complete. Haven't had any yet though. I think tonight we are doing a pub quiz, which should be fun.
