We left Tokyo and got a bullet train to Osaka. The trains are amazingly nice, there is so much leg room, you could fit my backpack on the floor and still have room to move. The trains apparently go up to 300 mph, though the average speed is about half that. When your actually on the train it doesn`t seem very fast at all.
It took us just under three hours to get from Tokyo to Osaka, which is roughly 350 miles away. Kate slept for the whole way and was really annoyed that she missed it. Though there wasn`t that much to see.
When we got to Osaka we realised how different it is to Tokyo. Firstly it is alot smaller, which was good as we didn`t spend ages on the train getting to the hostel. Secondly it is a lot rougher, particularly in the area that we are staying in. It is also noticeable that people are staring at you like they have never seen a white person before. Its actually quite unnerving.
Our hostel is ok, its not as nice as the Tokyo one. Even though it is more like a hotel. The really bad thing about it is that there are public baths. There is one private shower which can be used all day and then men and women can use the public baths at different times of the day. We had a look inside, there is a sauna inside and the bath looks nice but we`re not overly keen on showering with everyone else so we`ll be queuing for the private shower!
