We decided that as we were running out of things to do (and we were getting more and more fed up of people staring at us because we`re not Japanese!) we would go to Kyoto, which is a more touristy city about half an hour away from Osaka.
After attempting to get up early in order to get there early and failing miserably. We finally made it to the station to get the train. After some confusion with the train, we ended up on the local train instead of the rapid one so we had to stop at every station along the way!
When we finally got there, we found a map and walked to the Kyoto National Musuem. The Sanjusangendo Temple was opposite so we went in there. We didn`t really know what to expect. But were amazed by what we saw inside. Down one side of the very long hall, were 1001 statues lined up in 10 rows of 100 each one the same but slightly different. It was an amazing sight and not really one you can describe very well so I`m not even going to try. We bought ourselves good luck charms in the gift shop (wasting money again!) and then went over the road to the museum.
We only went into the permenant collection because we didn`t want to pay the extra 700 yen to see screen paintings in the special collection. The museum was full of jars and bowls as well as paintings. It also had statues similiar to the ones we had seen in the temple.
We got a bus to Ginkakuji, where we visited whats known as the Silver Pavillion. Basically it was another temple, though it did have a nice zen garden that you could walk around.
After that we decided it would be a good idea to start walking back towards the train station to see if we could see some of the other sights and then get the bus further down the road. But then for some reason though we decided it would be a good idea to walk the whole way back. It took ages, and was a good five mile walk. Needless to say halfway back we changed our minds but carried on anyway. Our feet were killing by the time we got to the station and then we had to stand up the whole way back on the train!
