Hello again! Cant reaallly remember where I last blogged but I think maybe it was from Ko Samui? On our last morning there we got back on our scooters and rode around the island a bit more which was good fun! We then headed to the ferry port to sail back to the mainland. Once there we got another bus direct to the train station to catch the overnight train to bangkok.
The station itself was absolutely crazy, about 100 people were randomly sitting on one side of the platform making it pretty much impossible to pass without walking on the tracks and a little boy was just standing there pissing on a train. Crazy. We also had to get onto carriage no. 2 which was on a totally different platform to no's 3, 6 and 8 and i dont even know where the others where, was allll a bit random! The beds as well were crazy! We left at 18:30 and I was sitting opposite a real frail old thai lady who glared at me for the first half hour or so before I moved down the carriage to join the others for some food. About 9pm a guy came round to make all the seats into beds- one of the bottom with a window and one on top without. A really small metal ladder was used to reach the top bunk and a small blue curtain was then pulled across to create what can only be described as a prison cell. I felt pretty sick for a while with the movement of the train as well but sat up talking til late so it wasnt too bad.
We reached bangkok at about 6am and transferred straight to our hotel where we were lucky enough to be able to check in although ended up paying for an ultra-expensive breakfast because we were so desperate. After a quick shower we headed straight back out to see the Wat Pho (i think its called) which is another massive reclining buddah and some other bits and bobs. I also tried to see the grand palace but wasnt allowed because I had my knees out, how naughty am i. I think i will go see it tomorrow before I leave. I ended up getting lost all on my own and found some crazy flower market and got a little bit ripped off in a tuk tuk back to the hotel but at 80 baht it hardly broke the bank. In the evening we all headed out for a realllly nice meal, i had a beef curry and then headed to Kao San Road for a few drinks. Khao San Road is mental, crazy busy and lots going on but its so touristy! You are lucky if you see a thai person down it!
This morning was officially our last morning together but everyone was hanging around at least for the rest of the day. We decided to head to a big mall to get some cheap tshirts and stuff which was actually quite a successful trip. There is a whole area of bangkok that is just massive malls, all at least 2/3 the size of bluwater, but about 6 on one street! I bought a coi=uple of tshirts and a nice new pairs of shorts- spent a total of 20 quid maybe? And that included lunch! lovely. When we returned to the hotel we said goodbye to Debs and then headed back to Khao San Road for another spot of shopping and general touristyness. We had dinner and then some more AMAZING ice cream before heading back to the hotel.
Tomorrow I am going to go back to the grand palace before I catch the overnight train to Chiang Mai for the next leg of my trip. Luckily Pauline, my GAP adventures guide, is getting the same train as me so tickets were easy to get and i wont get lost! Better go to bed now or i wont make it to breakfast.
Take her easy xxx
