After the previous two night's madness (and 6am finishes) as Sunday's should be it was a more relaxing, subdued affair. Billy was leaving today so I was pleased when I finally made it down to the pool and the Irish girls were there again and invited me to go to The Shed to them in the evening. Apparently Sunday night is the big night in Perth, particularly as the Irish contingent are out in force (no surprises there!) Billy's mate Johnny was taking over his room over xmas and he came round for some beers. He was a great guy and really funny and he was also going to The Shed. Me, Rob and the Irish girls headed to the bar and it was packed with a great atmosphere. The cheesy music by the ace covers band made it like being in Flares but I loved it. As did Jennifer and we bust some serious moves on the dance floor. In fact at one point when I was stood at the bar and one particular song came on I bolted to the dance floor and bashed little Aine out of the way!
The next day was golf day with Li who I had met in Fiji and was a Perth resident. Managed to get to the course at Burswood Park in good time but the temperature was sweltering, well above 40 degrees. He pulled up into the car park in a Subaru Impreza WRC, my favourite car. I just gawped and he said he would take me for a spin after, get in! Up on the first tee, I stepped up with foreign clubs in my hands and creamed a driver down the middle which I was understandably chuffed about, and Li was shocked as he clearly thought (having a handicap two-thirds lower than mine) that he was playing some part-time Happy Gilmore-esque character who would be easy to beat, little did he know about my competitive spirit. Well my good form continued for a few holes until quality shone through and I succumbed to both physical and mental fatigue from the past 2 months jollities and he won comfortably. This included shanking the ball when being photographed on a par 3 tee which is always highly embarrassing.
Back at the clubhouse we decided we would head back into central Perth and have some food and a few beers but not stay out too late as Li had work the next day. Well as ever that self restraint went by the wayside and we ended up at a bar/club called The Deen, which we had been reliably informed by the locals would be busy (despite the fact the rest of the town seem deserted by 11pm), and indeed there was a queue up the street to get in. Well we had several jars and a dance again (what's new for me) and we both really enjoyed the day.
My final day on this leg of the trip was to be spent relaxing on the beach before a long flight home in the evening, but first I wanted to venture into town to buy a little xmas thank you for both Sandra and Shane for letting me crash at their place and also for the Irish girls for their hospitality post-Billy. I had taken 3 different cards to buy things with me travelling and decided to take the 2 which I was sure had money on. Got to the checkout in a shop after buying some small presents and lo-and-behold both got rejected! It's happened to all travellers at some point. Still highly embarrassing when people queuing up behind you are frantically trying to finish their xmas shopping. So had to make a 30 minute round trip back to the apartment in the searing heat, not ideal.
Anyway headed to Cottesloe beach in the afternoon with Emer, Jennifer, Rob and Aime. Well the weather was glorious but the waves were even better and we did some serious body surfing which resulted getting thrown around in the water like a sock in the washing machine, great fun! Also had some of the freshest and best fish and chips ever. Mainly because it wasn't boring cod rather delicious battered red snapper and then the chips were covered in chicken salt. Me and Rob had also seen a girl sunbathing laid on her front with the best arse ever and managed to take a hilarious and not so subtle photo.
I'd had a great time with the girls and they invited me to stay for xmas and new year which I was sorely tempted to do but it didn't feel quite right being away from the family for xmas (and I had already ploughed £650 in for the flight home.) Generously Muireann had offered to give me a lift to the airport which I was really thankful for and I said my goodbyes. So it was on the plane and off home via Honk Kong. What a first leg it had been of the KJC World Tour, roll on Canada.
