Our overnight bus from Cusco was really nice and professional, but the actual journey was long and the roads were REALLY windey. Neither of us really get car-sick, but after 4 hours of non-stop bends Monique's stomach could take it no more. Fortunate she made it to the bathroom in time. The attendant on the bus was really nice and helped us out where he could.
We arrived in Lima at around midday on Monday 9 April and immediately got a taxi to our hostel in Miraflores. The dorm was pretty basic but the common area was nice and relaxing. And they had a puppy to play with! We ate at a cheap local restaurant for lunch where, in true South American style, the portions were huge. Later we walked down to the beachfront where we sat and watched the sunset. We then went back to the hostel to pack, ready for our flight the next morning.
Our airport taxi was right on time and we checked in at the airport without any issues. We should have known that it was all too smooth to be true, and we soon found out that our flight was delayed, meaning that we would miss our connecting flight in San Salvador :-/ The airline sorted us out with another flight, but it meant that we would now land in Washington at around 2am. So we just wandered around airports for most of the day. We both had an amazing time in South America, but were tired and both looking forward to being in a first-world, English-speaking country again...
