October 15 We left this morning for Carlsbad. We had a bit of a lazy start, and were immediately faced with a decision - longer, flatter, highway route….or Hwy 82 up through the mountains. October 12 We left Santa Fe heading for Las Cruces NM. We got off to a bit of a late start, and decided to go the "back way". What a great decision. The roads were in fantastic shape and there was hardly any traffic. In places it was very much desert, in other places it was very green, almost like a forest. October 9Today was the last day of the balloon fiesta. We woke up fairly early once again, and even though it was overcast in the morning, it must've been a perfect day for flying. By the time we left nearly every balloon was in the air, there must've been 150 balloons. After this last viewing, we headed north to Santa Fe. October 6We left Winslow, heading for Albuquerque. The drive was interesting. It started quite flat and we were worried that we were not going to see more mountains.
