Kevin and Joannie on tour
Joan woke up early and looked at her phone. We had an email from Via rail saying that there was likely to be a strike starting midnight on Sunday. Of course, this affects us as we are returning to Toronto on Monday after the race. It seems to be a regular feature of our holidays that our travel is disrupted. Even on our honeymoon, the travel agent forgot to arrange part of the holiday for us, then the road we were on was washed away by rain and we nearly missed our plane. Then we got bumped on to a later flight. There's been breakdowns 100 miles away from anywhere, punctures on Christmas day, running out of petrol and having to illegally enter Bolivia to buy some, being hit by a Peruvian mining truck at the top of a mountain, getting stuck in sand, missing flights because of slow Immigration at Miami Airport and of course, most recently being stuck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean during an air strike. (This list includes only America based holidays. Don't get us started on our boating holidays!!)The strike isn't confirmed yet so we are waiting to see what happens.
We ate breakfast from the huge buffet downstairs before catching the Tube to Jean-Drapeau. The Tube station is near the amazing bio-sphere, an eye catching piece of architecture. There was minimal security checks and we walked past concessions selling all kinds of food, including Canadian comfort food Poutine: chips with cheese curds and gravy.
Our grandstand is about as far as you can get from the station. Getting there we were pleased to discovery we had better seats than we expected, opposite Lewis and Nico's garages and near Pole position.
The weather was warmer than forecast. Chaps were hawking beer at $8 a small cup but we bought two just the same.
One of the best things about seeing GPs live is the organisation involved. All the trucks and marshalls, flags and lights. It really is a mammoth operation.
On the way back we saw some stunt bikes flying through the air in the Monster drink area.
For dinner we had gnocchi with spinach, mushrooms and Bleu D'Auvergne. We were too tired to go out sightseeing!!
