Tuesday 15th September - Notre Dame In 1853 the new church was built and was consecrated in 1864. An immense gold statue was put on top of the basilica in 1931 in front of 300,000 people and can be seen from all approaches to Marseilles. The opulence of the interior of this church surpasses all other churches that we have seen. The money that has been poured into this church must have been enormous and quite obscene. Monday 14th September - Quai de Rive Neuve Got to the Tourist Bureau and queued up to get our pre purchased 3 Day Marseille Pass which gives us lots of things to see and do whilst we are here. Monday 14th September - Fish for dinner At the city end of the Quai were these fishmongers selling their fruits de la mer. The fishermen had set up little stalls on square tables about 1.0 x 2.0m with a variety of fish displayed. We had decided that we would have fish for dinner and you don't get it any fresher than this. No English so we pointed to a type of fish that we thought we would like and asked for deux.
