Monday 25th January
I woke up Monday super sad to have to leave the hostel. I felt down again (the alcohol Saturday won't have helped) and just wanted to be back home. The idea of leaving a nice air-conned room with stuff to do in a communal feel place to return to our damaged hot van was depressing, but we had to. We checked out at midday and collected the van from a nearby (well, 10 minute walk) street and then began running our errands of going to Bunnings to collect a power cable for the maintenance guy back at the camp site Main beach tourist park (we were still supposed to be checked in there and checking out at 10am).
We returned the cable to the site which the nice reception lady thought we'd done a runner with, and then went on to find our new campsite near Dreamworld, a theme park which we were visiting the following day. We arrived at the camp site place called 'Dreamtime' early at 3.30pm (they were expecting us at 4) and so sat in the van in the car park waiting for our key. As soon as we got the key we didn't even bother to go and check the site out as it looked like there was literally nothing around and again it had been raining all day and still was, so we decided to get some microwaveable dinners from Coles and do a practise drive to Dreamworld and pick up tickets for tomorrow in an attempt to save que time and online booking cost. The tickets cost us $100 each but the rides looked good from outside. We then decided to kill time and drive back into surfers city centre and walked around to look for matching Australia tops to wear for Australia Day the following day.
It's a good job we didn't get back until late because the site itself was a disaster. On our arrival back at the site we both could strongly smell Cannabis as we pulled up in the dark to a guy in his car smoking it at the entrance... We located our slot and climbed out the van to two young girls (teens) who were our neighbours walked over to us in the dark to warn us of the site. They strolled with us to the toilet and told us not to go anywhere at night time on our own as men go into the ladies toilet to smoke. They then went on to show us the 'facilities' which was a lonely metal sink in a strange cylinder brick room (the kitchen) and a dirty old bbq with one bench. I burst out laughing because I knew what Lisa was thinking and two girls continued to tell us how 'Feral' people also lived at the site and it wasn't a nice place. I was relieved we'd only booked the place for one night and after also being shown the toilets (only one locked and most of them were in darkness) we scurried back to our van, where the tables had turned and we were now grateful to be in away from the scary site outside. It was like something out of the hills have eyes horror film. We put a microwave dinners in and sat and ate on the bed. There wasn't much else to do so we put the inbetweeners on and tried to go to sleep.
