Today took us through/under Sydney inland slightly into the Blue mountains. Our hottest day so far, 38 degrees doesn't feel too hot in an air conditioned car but we felt it when we stopped for a break. Don't know if it is being in Sydney, school holidays or the heat but the drivers seem more aggressive.
Thank you mom for insisting we come here. It feels like we have entered a whole new country with mountains and forests everywhere. We spent the afternoon in Katoomba walking the boardwalk and using the Skylink. 750 metres above ground this cable car has a liquid crystal floor which goes from opaque to translucent as you leave the boarding station. Going out was slightly nerve wracking. On the other side we found an oasis with some cold water cascades to wade in which refreshed us all before braving the return journey which didn't seem as scary. After the skylink we decided to head into the valley using the worlds steepest railway. Now that was truly terrifying, can't believe Oli didn't wet himself as he is not a thrill seeker. For whatever reason he decided to go up as well which was apparently even worse, I had had my fill by then. After miles of walking and enjoying the mountains we headed back for a thai dinner before a swim in the hotel pool. It seems strange being in a hotel after living quite normally for a while. The children are happy thoough as it means no chores and a buffet breakfast, crunchy nut cornflakes and tella toast are getting a bit boring. Time for bed as tomorrow us and the rest of new south wales will be on the road for the Christmas getwaway. Here's hoping our holiday resort is easy to find and not too crowded.
