Now we are cycling through Lithuania. It is a country that was invaded by Russia many years ago and owned by them for 100 years. Then in 1991 they became independent . So when I went to school I never learned of this country; I learned of the USSR ( United Soviet Socialist Republic) in geography, not Lithuania! The Lithuanians are very happy and proud of their independent country. We cycled 91 km to the capital city, Vilnius.
Here we had a rest day! Yay! We slept in, had a cycling tour, a massage then got dressed up for a delicious 5 course fancy meal at an art gallery! Very posh!
On Sunday, we cycled for 113km to Anyksciai then 160km to Latvia! It was very wet that day so after 100km I got in the car because my shoes were full of water and my fingertips numb! The border crossing again was 4km of dirt road with a simple sign. Because these countries are all part of the European Union (EU), we do not need to show our passports!
