I flew from Copenhagen to Berlin to meet Mr Coulter, who flew from Sydney. This is the city of our exchange student, Emily, who showed us around the city for 5 days. There was so much to see. Berlin is full of history that you will learn about in high school. It was the home of a man called Adolf Hitler, who was our enemy in World War Two, 1939-1945. After this war the city was divided into two!! It was called West Berlin and East Berlin. The East side decided to build a huge wall in 1961 to stop its citizens fleeing to the western side. It went up overnight so some people were stuck on either side of the wall and were not allowed to see their friends or family for decades! The wall came down in 1989. People learnt that building walls to separate people was cruel and does not work!
