Kennington to Cape Town
As we crossed into South Africa it was clear we were back in civilization. The border crossing was swift and we spent the night in a decent campsite in Springbok. We were now within two days drive from Cape Town and were feeling less inclined to finish the trip than ever before.
It was a windy drive down south. Tumble weed rolled across the road and we could hardly reach kmh against such a strong head wind. We headed for Stellenbosh for the penultimate night of our trip, so that we could taste some fine wines before arriving in Cape Town.
Arriving in Stellenbosch we were greeted by the site of two huge rainbows stretching over the vineyards. It was a fitting way to arrive in the 'Rainbow Nation'
At the campsite we cooked and ate a quick supper before it was impossible to stay outside due to the strong winds. We climbed up to bed and realized we had gone to bed at 7.30pm! That night we were kept awake by the sound of branches crashing all around us, some even crashing on to the top of our tent. Rather than experiencing a peaceful end of our trip we had a noisy night with branches and thunder - Stellen-bish-bash-bosch!
In the morning we were amazed to see that the tent was not damaged in any way, although we were surrounded by fallen branches. It had been a huge storm and had taken out the main Stellenbosch electricity grid. We knew we wanted to arrive with an impact but perhaps this was pushing it!
