Kennington to Cape Town
We have had a fantastic couple of weeks in Cape Town relaxing, sightseeing and socializing with friends. Richard's beard is now off, Camilla has had her haircut, Biggles has been jet washed, we've both caught up on sleep, the latest news, a few movies and reacquainted ourselves to Sauvignon Blanc and South African Pinotage.
The weather has improved over the last week, so we've been up Table Mountain, been wine tasting in Stellenbosch, toured Robben Island, sauntered around The Waterfront, visited District Six, gobbled seafood at Bloubergstrand, watched seals at Kauk Bay, gone clubbing with Leonardo Di Caprio and eaten at some of the best restaurants in the Cape Bowl.
The highlight of our time here has been driving to the southernmost point of our journey; to the Cape of Good Hope. Arriving here, almost exactly 25,000 miles after leaving Kennington, marked the official end of our journey.
The spectacular drive took us past Clifton Beach, Camps Bay (where Rich's grandfather used to live), past Hout Bay, over Chapman's Peak Drive, through Kaulk Bay and then on to the Cape Point National Park. The scenery looked a lot like Scotland, reminding us of our practice trip to Blair Atholl ten months ago. How far we have come from then....The road finally came to an end at the Cape Point lighthouse. From the lighthouse you could see for miles out to sea - we certainly had fortune on our side as we were blessed with one of the clearest days of our trip so far.
We donned our Biggles flying goggles, blew up our inflatable globe, waved our union jack flags, and prepared for our final celebrations. We drove to the most southerly point, cracked open a bottle of bubbly, toasted our family and friends, patted Biggles on the back, thanked our lucky stars, and watched the sunset from the bonnet for the very last time...an incredible way to end our adventure.
