Kennington to Cape Town
Day 130 - Christmas calling...
We have just spent a wonderful few days relaxing at a beautiful campsite just outside of Nakuru. Biggles is back on form after a day in the Roving Rovers workshop, located conveniently right next to Kembu Campsite. We had three new shocks fitted, the front axle crack welded, the roofrack reinforced, the exhaust patched, the radio mended, the power steering belt tightened, our back security lock fixed and the bearings looked at. Roving Rovers is what we would consider one of the best and most trust worthy Land Rover specialists in Kenya. George (the workshop Manager), Bosey (an extremely knowledgeable and capable workshop assistant), Samuel (affectionately termed the Rasta) all worked hard on fixing Biggles and, by all accounts, did a great job. Tony, the man who owns Roving Rovers, is a very down to earth guy, willing to help and is extremely knowledgeable about Landies and areas to travel in Kenya. He runs a great self-drive set up, called Roving Rovers, which is where Camilla's parents will be hiring their vehicle from. To find out more about Roving Rovers go to www.rovingrovers.com
Mum and Dad had a wonderful five days at Kicheche Camp in the Masai Mara (where we spent our honeymoon last year) and have now hired a 35 year old Range Rover we've named Ginger and we're set for two weeks of exploring Kenya, before flying to Lamu Island for a few days over New Year. We don't know where we'll be for Christmas Day but our ambition is to be camping in the wild with a campfire and if we can find one, a Kenyan turkey!
So with our final message from 2005 we want to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas, wherever you are in the world. We have been so delighted by all the messages on our message board and emails from friends, family, work colleagues and complete strangers who are enjoying our website. We hope to reply to everyone individually at some stage but finding fast internet access in the bush isn't as easy as it is back at home!
We are now getting excited about our visit to Amani Children's Home in Moshi, Tanzania. We hope to be there in the middle of January to see how they are benefiting from the funds we have raised. Once again, thank you to everyone who has been so generous in their donations to this worthwhile charity. To date we have raised 2,200 pounds which is only 300 pounds off our target of £2500. So, if anyone wants to give us a Christmas present, the best present of all would be a pound or two to Amani...
With very best wishes for a very Happy Christmas, and an adventurous New Year!
