On a last minute change of heart we decided to shake up our travel route and spontaneously fly to Buenos Aires…why not!! I love the sense of freedom we have on this trip, we actually can just do what we want. We had been tempted by the thought of Creamfields festival in BA anyway, then we got invited to go for free and most of our favourite Djs were playing so we didn't want to turn the opportunity down…then I researched into the weather in southern Argentina and it turns out it would have been a better time of year to go now anyway so our minds were made up and at midday we book a flight that night to Argentina!
In 5 days in BA we managed to pack in 3 club nights, an amazing tango show and dinner (and unlimited wine ;), tango lessons, relaxed in the gardens in Palermo and had ice cream down by the river. We stayed at party hostel Millhouse for the first two nights, it was really fun. We made friends with the staff, they were lovely, we were lucky enough to befriend the barman too Agu who sorted us out with cocktail jugs! And free entry to the clubs. But the hostel was fully booked because of the busy Creamfields weekend so we had to change…we moved to the nearby Ìdeal Social Hostel`which turned out to be far from ideal as we had money and a mobile phone stolen from our LOCKER there…due to a fault we discovered where you could actually just lift up the mattress and the under the bed locker was free for you to access. Needless to say, we went absolutely mental at the owners for this ridiculous fault as lockers are supposed to be the only safe place you can put your valuables when staying in dorm rooms!! After a lot of fighting we demanded they repay us for the loss and after a struggle they finally gave in and gave us half of the money back…and refunded our few nights accommodation so in the end we were only really down in terms of the mobile…which wasn't a huge deal as you don't even need a phone when travelling, so we just moved on…a few hours later we were at Creamfields Buenos Aires so we didn't think twice. It was one of the best days ever. We were lucky enough to get free entry to the festival thanks to a DJ friend. It was so amazing, 5 of our favourite DJs playing back to back. The reality of partying to trance again was just crazy, we loved it. Then even more to our luck during a 2 hour break where our favourite DJs weren't playing we were invited backstage and to the artists lounge where we got free cocktails and food and even caught a lift back to the main stage with the headliners (and our no.1 DJs) Above and Beyond who played the closing set to 75,000 people as the sun came up. What a day!!!!!!
We caught an early morning flight to Ushuaia…the southernmost city in the World…it is the main departure point for Antarctica, in hindsight if we had realized this before we would have tried to get a last minute deal for Antarctica, it would be amazing…but some things are good to save for the future anyway J It was cold here but we were fully prepared so kept wrapped up warm. From here we did a day trip to Tierra Del Fuego National Park, it was beautiful and a great warm up to the amazing scenery we would be about to experience in Patagonia. The hostel had free breakfast which was the best yet, with EGGS (Hayley and I love eggs…) and fresh fruit and brown bread, so we fully stocked up each morning. We found another good ice cream parlour, which is funny because despite it being so cold I still can't resist eating ice cream everyday….
