* Kemi's Travels *
We had a great Christmas and New Year staying at the crazy party hostel which is Millhouse in Buenos Aires! We were there for 9 nights in the end and got up to all sorts of mischief. We were really lucky with our dorm room (its all about your ´roomies´) and spent the first few days with a couple of lovely Danish guys and a funny Londoner who we called ´Chris the Don Star´. Then we had some nice Brazilians and then some American girls. The room had a balcony so was nice and airy and by the end of the week it felt like our own bedroom with our s*** all over the place! On Christmas Eve we partied with everyone at the hostel bar with our santa hats on. It was a great night and lots of cocktails. We went to Pacha about 2.30am , it was a really nice club playing electronic music so it was great. On Christmas Day itself we all slept in til early afternoon, then went and skyped our parents, which was amazing. It obviously doesnt even feel like a real xmas not being at home but its so nice to be able to Skype. Christmas Day dinner consisted of a feast at the restaurant by the corner of our hostel, we were starving and couldnt be bothered to go far, but we still ate in christmas spirit with our santa hats on! After another little snooze and a few slices of pizza we started to get ready the the Christmas Night out, the´White Party´at our favourite Club One. Jacob and Lesser came with us, and after some extreme blagging at the door (we didnt realise their door policy for this party was ALL White, and we all only had white tops and they expected white bottoms? We are travellers! None of us even own white trousers!) anyway as usual the bouncers decided to make an exception for us girls but we refused without them allowing the boys too as we had planned a night together. It finally worked and the guys were so happy they treated us to some Champagne...5 bottles later and we all had a merry christmas! The club is amazing, really unique layout and amazing visuals. The Argentian crowds are wild and its electrifying. An amazing (but different) Christmas! Our time in BA was varied, with some much needed relax days, a lot of party nights and great times with the other travellers we met and also seeing the rest of the sights BA has to offer. One day we hung out at La Boca and saw the colourful buildings and had a BBQ lunch in a local backyard cafe. Another day we walked to Recoleta and looked through the markets and also visited the bizarre cemetrery there. Evita´s grave is there, but all the graves are like mini houses where all the family are buried. A nice concept but just didnt seem like a normal cemetary as it was filled with mini house like graves, weird . One afternoon we watched locals dance Tango on the boulevard by the water at Puerto Madero whilst I ate even more home-made icecream and Hayley enjoyed an Italian coffee. We also went to ´La Cabrera´ one of the best steakhouses in BA...and it was AMAZING. Finally had we got a taste of the real Argentian steak everyone raves about. It melted in your mouth! A few days later we found out they do Happy Hour where everything is 50% off at 7pm Tuesday-Sunday. So we went again with Danny and Andrew and couldnt believe it when we saw the entire bill is half price, so Hayley and I even had a bottle of champagne. Such backpackers!! Thought the steaks are so huge Hayley and I shared a 500g Wagu Rump! I also had the chance to go and visit a friend Alex who is from Buenos Aires who I met in Fiji two years ago, that was great! Hayley and I went to his house in Belgrano and had a nice catch up on his rooftop terrace. It was amazing to see him again and in his home city! Our last big event was New Years Eve. The hostel were having another big party but we were set on getting out of there and seeing more of BA for the New Year, everyone else just took the easy option and stayed there and then got the transfer to the club, but about 10pm Hayley and I grabbed a taxi to Palermo and went to the Planeterium. We took a bottle of rum and mixer and joined the crowds hanging out in the gardens to celebrate the New Year. At midnight you saw lots of mini firework displays popping up around the city. Just as we started to walk off towards the club, we got caught smack bang in the middle of an amazing fireworks show which was great. A local family were heading home and offered us their spare bottle of Champagne so we enjoyed that. We also got talking to another local couple, any excuse to try and practice our Spanish! They love talking to us too and cant believe we are from England (everyone assumes Brazil....me and Hay dont mind that though, hehe!) We had a funny walk to the club, including a ride in police car with the cops showing off with us in the back speeding along with their lights flashing doing U Turns in the road...you would never get that in England! An eventful night and that was before we even hit the club! Terrazas Club was awesome, 5 rooms with different music and a huge outdoor terrace by the sea. We found most of our friends from the hostel so got to party with them anyway which was fun. A sad farewell to all our friends we had made and the lovely staff at the hostel who made it feel like a mini home for us...then off we go again...leaving Buenos Aires for the last time.
